WWI flight sim

GT are backing off of giving out updates on a regular basis, could be a sign a publisher has been found and the pressure is on to get this sim out.
However as a teaser some in game video has been relesed

So:)
Since we will take some time off with out updates, we decided to make a little unofficial video for you, so it wouldnt take too much of waiting with it.

Here it is:
110mb .*avi version
104mb bink video version

We are sorry for this “time out”, and we hope we will came back soon. Wink

PS: pls if you can - drop this links on to other forums, thanks!

I’m getting impatient now…
This Sim is looking superb IMO

Absolutely gorgeous isn’t it Brigs. And someone called it a non-update. Fricking peasants

Imagine flying around that spot with bridges and wires at 1600 x 1200. Is the drool apparent

Good point about why the quietness suddenly. Pre-publishing purdah yes could be, fingers crossed. There’s a big Consumer Electronics show up soon I think

That or the team fell out. No parachutes…

Ming

Hope you two are right… Now, just how do you take out that ballon again?..

No I’m imagining it at 1920x1200
that landscape is gorgeous, a dawn patrol will be something to behold I’m sure

from what I know of WWI avionics, balloon busting was a suicidal mission to undertake and only psychopathic nutters like Albert Ball enjoyed the challange

Ball was a loner on the ground as well. Evenings he would play his violin, Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony and other pieces, by the red light of a flare. He was humourless and pious, convinced that killing Huns was God’s will. He tended his private vegetable garden and took target practice with a Lewis gun.

The point of the planes to begin with at least is to knock down the balloons which contain in the basket observers for the enemy artillery so yes they have to be taken down. The enemy planes are there to knock down our planes that are trying to knock out their observation balloons. Until we’re on photographic reconnaissance runs with cameras mounted to the planes the enemy balloons are our primary targets. Along with the enemy planes that are in turn trying to take our observation balloons down. To get a bit of piece and quiet

What I mean is: it’s the artillery that is the main focus and their balloon observers. We’re a sideshow to the real battle on the ground and we work for the Army to begin with. I want to watch a creeping barrage “Forward 50yds same angle” I’ve been forward air observer for, semaphore or summat

The proof that the balloons are our main targets is that they are defended so resolutely… suicide yes I think so Brigs. Slow planes: flaming onions

Ming

The thing about balloons was that defensive Archie knew where any attackers would be, and at what height.
Guns were sighted, and fuses were set accordingly - nasty …

We’re a sideshow to the real battle on the ground and we work for the Army to begin with.

… to begin with…
Exactly, in the early days of WWI avionics was a sideshow and balloon busting was an important duty for those fledgling flyers. However as the war progressed and technology started to gather momentum, the war in the air started to rival what was happening in the trenches. Observers with wireless capability could vector artillery better than some poor soul dangling in a basket. While the tenches were at a standoff the RFC could take it to the enemy, straffing trenches, dropping bombs over the side (or even from bomb racks later on) and generally taking the War forward.
1917-18 saw the birth of modern aircombat. Beolke’s dicta was written (and still stands as a bedrock of modern air tactics) and aviation as a weapon was firmly established. Don’t underestimate the role of aircraft in WWI, especially in 1918, an SE5, DVII or Sopwith Snipe are no gentile bags of string and canvas. These are machines that could pick up a fair speed in combat not far off what was the norm in Spain in the mid 30’s

I can’t talk much I’m too depressed after the latest announcement

Ming

???
Ure guna make me cry aint ya:(

It’s not all gloom, there is still alot of promise in there. It would be nice to have an FMB as well, so we, as a community can help get the best out of it. But the base install will have the engine to push simming forward. 2008 release too!

Bit less depressed, ta Brigs

Ming

More news, addon a/c maybe as little as 4 euro’s (£3) each

edit: all addon a/c are free to add to the sim, but you have to pay a fee to unlock them as flyables. (£3)
Given that there are over 100 flyables in IL2 and I only fly a handful, it puts it in a more favourable light

For those of us who can not spend time in the forums … what announcement?

I was just about to repeat my post a few back but u beat me to it:D

This Demo video really looks promising love these effects  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnwz3WQfuWM&NR=1

Im guessing this anouncment is about paying for more aircraft.
I will pile all the cash i need into this sim when it arrives:D
