The simpler Oblivion functions

I’m enjoying Oblivion no end but I’m missing some I-suspect vital rookie stuff

I’m a Nord with a sword and I know that I can do stuff with potions and other magic to enhance the weapon

I made my sword into an Evans (Evan of Caerleon) but I’ve no idea how I did it

Level 8 I’ve got to and loving the sound of the horse’s leather straps rhythmically singing out an accompaniment to the riding, creak- creak- creak- wow

So please can I get chapter and verse on how to get things like Damage Health or wotnot on to my sword? I don’t use the bow for I am an in-your-face Nord. Like Mikke then

I’m imagining this is like spreading jam on bread. I get the sword ready and get the jam ready but how to apply it to the sword… Frost damage and that. Breaks easily too the Evans or seems to, I know how to get kit repaired by that woman in Skingrad. Thousands of FAQs around but this problem is too obvious to go on about maybe so I missed it  I’ve got the manual but can’t repeat how I applied - what are they called? Not enchantments I need to do the Mage thing I think… poisoning the sword that’s what I’m after

I had the sword glowing about three weeks ago and it was really looking good but it stopped glowing and I can’t get it to work again…

What’s up with that camp kit you get when the stone speaks and decks you out with what looks like panto gear. Aladdin I swear

Ming of Mongo
Keeper of the Ring of Rongo
Son of Pongo of Drongo
Father to Honcho of Concho in this life and the one before where I died horribly as usual on account of having all these jams and poisons that I can’t spread on me bloody bread. I bet I’d be a right hard case if I could. Look you can tell me it’s not multiplayer share the good stuff with your adventurer companions. Oops that went off the end of the clay tablet there

Ming,

Make sure your sword is equipped (I think you need to be holding it) Click on a green potion (a nasty one). It will ask you if you wish to poison your blade. Say yes. You can do the same for your bow. The next time you hit with the weapon the ill effects of the potion will be applied to your “victim” :).

As for enchanted items, each enchanted weapon has a set number of uses depending on the enchantment on that weapon. Each weapon holds a magical charge and that also depends on the strength and how many enchantments on each weapon. To recharge a weapon you either need to go to a mages guild and look for a recharger person (There is one in Anvil I think) or use soul gems. Soul gems can be found in various locations and they hold souls. You can find them with souls already in, or use a soul trap spell to trap a soul from one of your “victims”. The full soul gems can be selected and it will ask you which weapon you want to charge. Soul gems come in different sizes from petty right up to grand. The size determines the power of soul that can be trapped. The higher the more charges can be got out of them.

The soulg gem thingy is all a bit confusing so I hope this has helped a bit

Thanks Maryfield of Drappoc!

Click on a green potion (a nasty one). It will ask you if you wish to poison your blade

Ah it asks does it - not seen that but just the once when it worked

Yes I thought I’d seen a dialog asking do I want? - must be doing something wrong then I’m usually equipped but Sod’s Law when I’m clicking- and clicking  on the poison I’m holding something else.

What the bloody hell have I been poisoning then <looks down>

Cheers mate look out those three vicious b*ggers that are theiving at night they’ve given me a good kicking for weeks I keep going back a bit more powerful to tackle them and they still kick seven shades out of me I hate em. One day Evan will shove his Evans right up their shadowlands

lol I got a disease the other night from something in a cavern in the dark I ain’t going back there again the doctor said “Does it sting when you pee?” No but if it touches em it’ll poison em if it’ll just go high enough

Ming

Ming,

I don’t want to worry you but if you got a disease in a cavern that may well be the onset of VAMPIRISM!!!

Get yourself to a church/chapel and click on the altar (within 3 game days mind) and you will be cured otherwise you’ll be a vampire and you’ll find it hard to make friends. I hear the halitosis is horrendous

lol

It was the Living Dead I reckon but I save every 12 seconds naturally mate and I’m never going back there again until I’m well-stocked with antibiotics and a bit more experienced in combat. The Arena I’m bound for next trip see if I can muscle up. I bet the best gear is in that cavern too grr

I only just found out that you can hold the button down for stronger attacks I’ve been so jumpy I’ve just been thrashing around

Ming

LoL.

Those Zombies are actually quite creepy and realistic looking. They also move surprisingly fast…

The first time I went in there I ran back out very fast! They just won`t die! Oh and another creepy surprise I had - it followed me out !

If it`s dead of night sometimes they do that. I had to high-tail it all the way back to civilisation!

I had to high-tail it all the way back to civilisation

The Blackadder - flee defence. I use that all the time…

Keets the yellow bellied dark elf.

I am about 30 real time hours into this, and still I keep finding stuff out, didn’t know you could poison your blade !
I went to recharge me super duper magicallyfantastically sword at the mages guild, and the buggers wanted nearly 3K gold !
so were do I find these soul stone things ?

I just discovered that you need silver weapons to have effect on the ghosts, so I will ressurect that long postponed mission to get to the bottom of the ghost watchmans ship wreckage now !
I recently vamoosed a shedload of ghosts from a house picked up cheap in Anvil, and its all looking good, but were do I go to get the damn maid, I went to the general store but they don’t sell maids or servants quarters ?

you need silver weapons to have effect on the ghosts

Good intel thanks PeeGee

I finished the quest to prove the Orc guy’s birthright, doesn’t half get immersive in there blimey

I had a titanic struggle with a Count. I think that’s what the Orc called him

Someone said “Always back the Blue fighter” so I did and won 50.

Next time lost the bloody lot and had to leave a marker so that’s tested that cockamamie theory

I fought just the one contest in the Arena against a quick female and won, just - only 50 sovs for winning and I wasn’t allowed to mutilate the corpse. Place is going downhill.

The fighting skeletons guarding the Count’s cuntry retreat are very impressive Harryhausen, one had to carefully skirt them. I’m personal tailor to a heap of bones get me out of here

Ming

Did I hear my name? Maybe we discussed it in another thread, but yes, silver or enchanted weapons. Worth remembering when your Claymore of Massive Woe proves totally useless against even the most minor Undead. A dagger with a 5 second light spell may seem pretty worthless, but it still counts as “enchanted” for bashing ghosts etc…

Level 16 now and things are starting to get interesting. I’m on the lookout for ebony armour, any hints?

Got a lovely set of enchanted boots that raise my encumberance up to 455. Useful when looting that cave system

I’ve got 5 sigil stones just waiting to enchant my ebony armour when I get it

I’ve finally managed to get my armourer skill up so I can repair enchanted items. Very useful I must say.

LOL … Caught you skim reading Ming … silver weapons

I hope Phil doesn’t read this…

Where is he anyway he likes games like this he loved that one with the female ninjas and all the women in this one are right bloody ball-breakers

Enchanted bootees lol

You’re a mage are you Maryfield?

You fecking wimp come and get some <clank>

Ming

But, there’s nothing wrong in having a few destructive fireballs as back up

Ah

Big bloke is it ok I withdraw my protuberance

That’s another thing Maryfield check the header

Last night for the first time ever I did something and a fireball shot out from somewhere (no vindaloo jokes!) - I didn’t know that I could use fireballs and enchantments mate… I thought you had to be a mage no one tells me anything I’ve been on the sword the whole time and I’ve got to level 8

I’ve got around 1000 bills and really working hard trying to save up for Castle Mington. No cheats please though I’ll just have to earn it with the slogging. Fighters Guild next I’ll try I’ve done the rats/mountain lions so I must have enrolled sometime
