Silent Hunter III

Some great videos showing in-game footage and also interviews with a real submariner. http://www.silent-hunteriii.com/uk/videos.php

Haven’t been so excited about a game since Rome Total War! With this and BoB:WOV coming out it looks like IL2 will be a distant memory soon

i saw videos,i like it.i’m awaiting for this game and band of brothers

Yeah I can’t await too. I’ve play Silent Hunter2 and I love it.

@Fattoria
Band of Brother’s ?? Maybe you mean Brother in Arms

Yes this is the other one that I’am awaiting too

S!

yes warlord brother in arms, band of brothers was telefilm eheh

Just got home to find my copy came this morning.

<Grabbing the delousing powder> - I’m going in…

@Keets

Good Hunting…Herr Kaluen …I am waiting end of this month so I buy it

For the moment I try my luck in Brothers in Arms

Ich habe es! I mean… I got the game yesterday

Installed without a hitch on my pc. For best effect I installed it in German  I was worried about the copy protection, especially because FB, AEP and PF gave me trouble with their protections.

The game looks a winner. Splendid graphics (water looks better than in PF - it is a naval sim after all). Great sound (though the aircraft and flak sounds are a bit off). Good performance + no lockups or ctd’s so far.
I’m really impressed with how the game sets the right atmosphere: music, menu backgrounds and features like the rolling of the ship, people standing in port and of course the gramphone (I put in the Tipperary song  )

Campaign seems great too. The crew management reminds me a lot of B17II - which is a good thing!
Apparently there is no resupply function or AI wolfpacks. I hope this will be added somehow.

First patch is out already!

I love this game already.

If you have an Nvidia card then you really need to see it in 3D using shutter glasses and 71.84 drivers. I’ve never seen anything like it. It is like having a window into a giant water tank. The effect is out of this world and the cost minimal. The drivers are there now and the glasses only cost about £33 on Ebay. Just make sure first that your monitor supports 100Hz refresh rate. Less than this and it will still work but you will see flicker which spoils things and will limit your time in 3D. Once you’ve seen this in 3D you’ll not be able to drag yourself away.

PF also works in 3D now with the new drivers but the stereo separation is different in the outside world to that in the cockpit. This essentially means flying with cockpit off or staying inside and seeing only the cockpit interior in 3D. It is a great way to appreciate the plane models offline though.

I’ve also tried CoD and H&D2 in 3D and they are perfect. Hopefully Brothers in Arms will arrive today.

You mean this?

I’ll cut one out for you for free

With ATI cards there is an option to set “shaders” that puts a sepia overlay on the video. It looks really cool, like watching an old movie. Is there such an option on Geforce wards?

Interesting,

I hope they have it in the shops in Holland already

Going up West after work to get this and Brothers In Arms. I hope they are both in!

Thanks for the reviews chaps

And a new FM for PF

It’s all happening

Ming

With regards to 3D I’m talking about this… http://www.edimensional.com/products/edglasses.htm

Each eye sees a different image. At 100Hz alternate images are created with each eye seeing 50fps hence no flicker at all and perfect 3D is created by simply offsetting the z-buffer (or depth) coordinates of the image.

However if all you’ve got is anaglyph glasses the 3D driver can also produce images like this…

Let me know how it looks…

(Should’ve bought Nvidia)

Got it ordered Flowbee and have looked out those 3d glasses I got ages ago but never used.

Can’t wait to try them with this as new Gcard as from what you say sounds like will be amazing. You love your eye candy but this is first time your wife has as well ! :roflmao:

Yep ordered it too

so its on your recommend

if its shit ill be up to see you

I know Silent Hunter 3 has only just been released but Ubisoft is already planning the follow up: Silent Hunter 4 - due 1st Quarter 2006.

Ubisoft 05-06 Releases

Sterling.

Come on then lads whats’ it like?

I haven’t heard many of you on the forum recently so I am assuming your all off blowing up american convoys in the atlantic.

Just wanted to know whether its worth the £30 you spent on it.

Graphically it looks like I should buy it just for the water effects

Sterling.

Well I got my copy and its AWESOME !

well worth the money

only thing is the game seems to auto set graphics

and it seems to be 1024 X 768 goot but jaggies

can anyone tell me how to get a higher res

ohhh Brothers in Arms is ace as well, great month for gamers !

I might have been the worst pilot ever to join EAF  , but I tell you I suck
even more as a U-Boat commander :roflmao:
Had the game for two days, it´s stunning and seems very realistic. Done three patrols early war (sept 1939) Northsee, only tried to catch up with some lonely freighters, on my last patrol I chased one , surfaced, awfull weather, giant waves over the conning tower ( you can feel the spray!),
fired all 5 fish ( a type IIA only carries 5) , no deckgun. Hit with last one, but the bastard only burned but didn`t sink.

I would say that based on some hours play this is perhaps the most immersive sim I´ve played (we are talking offline of course). I also think it is
pretty tough and challeging. (Jawohl Kaleu, Feuer frei!)

Oh and a nice detail, there is a record player that plays MP3 files, so after i leave harbour (where the nurses are cheering and waving, and the band is playing "Deutchland, Deutchland uber alles  ), we go to sea listening to
“it´s a long way to tipperary”!

Sterling, you´ll be sold!

SH3 is up there on my list of best games ever. If you are even slightly interested in submarines, you have no excuse of missing it.

The fixed 1024 resolution is no problem for me, everything looks great with some AA. So far I have experienced no lockups and no CTDs and the game runs smooth at full detail. Also, the sound is VERY good. Finally I was able to get the most out of my 5.1 speaker combo  The 3d surround works great.

Some reported that Luftwaffe air ops weren’t in the campaign. They are wrong  Last night I saw a freighter blown away by Condors right before my eyes. The flight models seem a little odd though :stuck_out_tongue:

Going full real in this game will be tough. I have settled at 77% and manual targeting (I can’t do away with external views because the game looks so good). At manual targeting you can still let the Weapons Officer do the calculations for you. Depending on his skill and fatigue it may be accurate or far off. My 1WO, Wolfgang, is doing a good job - yes after a few patrols you get to know your men by name

It’s a bit difficult game for me because the manual is a bit unclear sometimes and there are many buttons. But so far I like it good. In the last 4 days I did the 4 naval training academy missions and passed my exams.

So now can I start my career as Henkie the Uboot commander
First mission I only must navigate from Willemshafen to grid AN47 and patrol there for 24 hours. Beautiful weahter and lot of people on the shore to wave goodbuy and I hear a band playing

The navigation to get to the grid is easy and I can do it with time aceleration, but how to find the ships in all that water?
