100 meters
My initial test with the 109’s are that they leave a lot more time for SA than the Hurricane and Spitfire. All that engine management in the are very nice for casual flying but not for combat.
It must be something with Brittish engineering, I have the same experience with German and English cars, lol
I’m starting to wonder what the FIAT G50 will look like…electrical unreliability and gun seizing???
For not to talk about Alfa Romeo engines…
:roflmao:
100ms again
Was not unknown for pilots to set convergence as low as 50ms historically.
Believe reading somewhere 602’s Findlay Boyd had convergence at 50 yards. Earning him the distinction of being called “Bastard Boyd” in his ruthlessness to get the kill.
Grrrrr
Before I came to EAF I was an Axis pilot (read German). The main reason for my choice at the time was cockpit design philosofi. My opinion still stand. The Spit looks fantastic but It seems to me that the british aircrafts where designed by a Mechanic for Mechanics and that the pilots were only borrrowing the aircrafts
Where as the German cockpits, espescially the fighters, where designed as an office with the pilot in mind. As the 109E is a pre WWII design it suffers a bit from the same as the bristish, but havee redeeming qualities like automation in some places and the buttons seems to be placed better for a pilot who have to have his right hand on the stick (NOT THAT ONE! That is called a gun;) all the time.
In those early WWII days the mechanical parts are all in the open without shielding. Which was a good way for a pilot to get hurt if he had to crashland.
No pun intended to all of you living in the Empire
I think one of the german aces did the same thing on the eastern from. As a result of this he had many kills but had to walk home from time to time since pieces of his prey often manged to damage his own aircraft. :roflmao:
Think I read or saw a programme that initially said they were set to 400 - 600 yards but at that range they were spraying bullets everywhere like a watering can effect. Brought down to 200 yards for harder hitting, but it was a personal thing after all like you stated above.

Starfire I take great offence at that remark!
Trust me when I tell you that British a/c particularly of the wartime period were not designed for the fitters/engineers/mechanics that built and serviced them. They were also not built for the pilots who had to fly them, see early Spitfire which had the manually pumped U/C selector on the right of the cockpit which resulted in the hand change at takeoff to get the gear up (left hand off throttle and onto stick, right hand off stick onto u/c selector and pump, once gear is up switch back again. The same applied for the Blenheim which IIRC has the U/C and flap selector in a postion which cannot actually be readily seen by the pilot but he has to feel for it
British aircraft designers were out to prove how clever they were with their complex arrangements, manufacturing, maintenance and pilot suitability I dont think counted at all
Yeah its a personal thing right enough, In IL2 my convergence was at 100ms for rifle caliber weapons, I did try getting it lower but the settings never stuck and always resulted in 100 ms convergence.
Cursed that every time i had to slew an aircraft to bring the guns on only one wing to bear on a target.
As a result of this he had many kills but had to walk home from time to time since pieces of his prey often manged to damage his own aircraft
Not really a great drawback when your fighting for your freedom over your own country when pilots, not planes were in short supply. BoB is a battle of desperation.
Just by strike of luck did I find this game in a local GameStop shop. Half as expensive as on Steam and its hard copy, though not CE. Went for it.
Just trying out the game now for the first time and the frames arent very bad actually (v.103 or something - is that the new patch there has been much talk about lately?) Around 35 FPS avg.
Anyone up for some flying today; I’m more green than ever and would love some help…with eveyrhting really. At least take-off procedures (Can read all these manuals though but I’m impatient right now):o
PS: Flying the moth (the only aircraft I have tried) is like using a sledgehammer as a stick. I thought it was very sensitive IRL. It feels like twice as bad as the 10% default input in IL2 - where can I boost it up? Using an X52 and only mapped the inputs and have done no changes to sensitivity (1.0)
There seems to be a integration problem with the Windows (7) Aero interface.
This can be minimized by changing the propperties of the Steam Launcer.exe application.
Right click at the Launcher.exe and click Properties
Choose the pane Compatability.
Put a mark in Disable desktop composition.
Steam will make a protest about not recommending this once.
After that Windows 7 will revert to basic colors whenever COD is launched and revert back when the game is closed.
What sort of problem are you seeing with windows 7? I’m running Windows 7 64 bit here and have had no issues, i’ve not needed to do that.
I have stutter and low framerate and variable framerate.
It is a pain, especially during landing and gunnery. In some of my gunnery tests, it have lead to pilot enhanced ocillitation.
That is when a pilot makes a correction and due to the delay, he keeps correcting to before the input have been implemented by the aircraft.
My Gamerig
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 (2x3GHz)
8GB RAM
260GTX 896MB GDDR3
Intel X-25M SSD
I have a tiresom inertia in the missionbuilder. Somthing I remembered from IL2, when my PC had less than steller specs.
And does running the game in compatibility mode solve the problem? I bet you still get stutters… best to wait for the patch which is imminent. (has anyone said two weeks, be sure yet?)
There’s some info on the banana forum about a recommendation to disable the windows 7 aero interface to improve performance. Personally, I don’t want to compromise my OS and features that I like to get the performance out of a game which isn’t optimised.
The changes makes the game more playable to me.
The changes does not compromise Windows 7, but due to the nature of Steam, it will affect all your Steambased games.
It is (almost) the same we did to Hyperlobby/IL2/TS2 when we migrated to Windows 7/Vista. We made the program run in Windows XP sp2 or Sp3 mode.
As I wrote. Windows will revert to normal color mode when the game is exited.
Disabling Aero, good tip, ta
Sounds like a sim of pre-series JAS-39 then!
I have bought CoD, recieved it on tuesday, but haven’t installed it yet, and will not do it today either. Probably tomorrow friday, and perhaps the first patch will be done by then as per Luthiers post?
Beta patch has been released, anyone feeling brave?

Not really. I think desperate is the right word.
Oh dear, you are going to be desperate a while longer I don’t think it will be worth it after reading this
Oh well looks like I will be playing ROF or A10C for the foreseeable until SEOW is launched
