Does no one else agree with the hypothesis that IC Maddox and UBI are deliberately pandering to the uk crowd with these pythonesque goings on ?
A kind of viral marketing thats just gone very, very wrong…
Come on, its funny, really really really funny, when you sit back and think about it.
6 or 7 years of waiting for the game, and it arrives, and when we visit, its a bit like a cheese shop, one that just happens to be out of cheese… even Venezuelan Beaver Cheese…
It does however seem to have excellent facilities for the storage and display of cheese, should some ever be delivered.
Anti-epilepsy filter == the cheese delivery van broke down.
propellers == Aah, we have been trying to get a regular supplier of that cheese…
Dont get me wrong, i am not saying its a dead parrot…
Depends what their take on the dance in the background is.
Really, I think it’s a UBI thing: “Dammit, we have waited for x years for you to get it ready, we really need to have it out the door now!”
Maddox: “But we still have some things to finish, some testing to be done!”
UBI: “Doesn’t matter, it needs to be out now.”
Maddox: “Well, guess we could, we can fix the last things with patches soon after release. The testing will be done by then, be sure.”
UBI: “Oh, and btw, it needs to have an epilepcy filter.”
Maddox::eek:
I still can’t believe after so long and with their experience of il2 we get this. What happened with the landscape we have gone backwards here in my opinion.
Also I think they watched Dr Who for their research with spitfires firing lasers because we got better effects of guns firing from the mod community for Il2.
Hi everyone. I’m very sorry to see that some of you are having technical difficulties with the game. It pains me personally to see that these problems are preventing you from enjoying everything the game has to offer.
The team has been working at a frantic pace since mid-summer. I personally have been working 12+ hour days 7 days a week pretty much non-stop, with only a short breather around Christmas. Optimization has always been our top priority; for example, the game you are playing now is roughly twice as fast as the version shown at Igromir.
We are continuing to work at the same pace now, after the release – no weekends in sight. We are working very hard to make the game better, and we hope that even those of you who are unhappy with the state of the game are still able to see that it is worth the wait, and that you have faith in our ability to improve on your experience.
Here’s what we are working on at the moment:
Performance increase. Over terrain, the two things that slow things down the most are trees and buildings. We are currently in final stages of testing optimized buildings that almost double the FPS over London on a test machine.
Tree optimization is a little farther away. You will probably see changes in how trees are rendered, they’ll take longer to appear over terrain, but once again, performance increase should be significant.
If everything tests correctly over the weekend, both of these should be released by early to mid next week.
Enhanced multicore support. The mode that we unfortunately were not able to finish in time is sending all render to a dedicated CPU core. The mode is working but somewhat buggy. It easily doubles the FPS, and the performance boost is especially noticeable in larger missions with lots of stuff going on.
This is probably at least two to three weeks away, and we will probably do a short public beta of this major change before it’s made live to everyone.
Multiplayer. There is something in steam filters that prevents game servers from being found. This is only happening with live retail versions of the game. This apparently isn’t caused by us – hopefully it’s just a simple oversight somewhere and the fix will be a simple flick of a switch.
FM and ballistics. We have already addressed the issue where rounds appeared to leave aircraft sideways. This was caused by the difference between physical and rendered position of the aircraft, i.e. the rendered position lagged behind the actual aircraft position.
Our aircraft programmer has a huge bucket list of things to check, which he’s going over at a rather brisk pace.
Resurrecting SLI support. This is our next biggest priority; it’s done by the same programmer now in final stages of optimizing buildings. We are really hoping this will be a quick task, but I don’t have an ETA at this point. It’ll either be a couple of days, or a much longer undetermined amount of time if we have to submit versions to card manufacturers and ask for their input.
Bug fixes and support. We are reading this forum a lot and some Russian-language forums, and working very hard to address all issues as they are being reported.
New stuff – larger online maps, some new aircraft such as the 109E1 and E4 etc – are all in the pipeline too, but obviously we need to solve the bigger issues first and then deal with the freebies.
Thank you all for your continuing support! Just FYI, I’m constantly doing 20 things at once, so if I don’t respond to your question it doesn’t mean I didn’t read it! I’d love to spend more time on the forums talking to the community and answering questions, but unfortunately I just cannot do it as much as I should at the moment. Please bear with us, we do really want to make all of you very happy!
Redundants video links posted earlier were also just as amusing, I particularly enjoyed his ‘sound fly-by’ videos demonstrating the sounds of CoD :roflmao:
I desperately want to order the CE edition but at the moment I cannot justify the enourmous price tag for a pretty box :o
In all this mess and derision, I suffer a bit with Luthier and his team. Obviously they were forced to a premature release.
But as things are,
once terrain and objects is adjusted to low quality, the simm runs fine in single play. Set engine to easy as a start. See my link above in this thread for starting the 109, engines burn if they aren’t cooled.
I had lots of fun with the Brittish campaign yesterday, and I will continue it tonight.
I also feel for Luthier and Oleg. We obviously know nothing about the actual circumstances of the release and UBI. But something is obviously not right there.
I’ll be perservering with CoD as well, I’m sure it will eventually come good. I have even downloaded the English version now. It will stay on my PC, just not as used as I imagined it would have been.
Found one copy at the local GameStop cheaper that I have seen it on the web. Nice!
(…and from there it went downhill)
This is my first experiance with Steam and I get a nasty feeling off having a spy looking over my shoulder
Skimming though the ELU’s and looking at the setup I get a creepy sensation like when a spider are walking up your arm.
I feel violated!!! :bootyshk:
The architect behind Steam must been in close famility with certain architects/politicians from WWII
and the game is not even installed yet.
I run my PC like it was a custom made car. There are no unnessesary programs and during my next windows install my 7 will be from a customtailored image (as my old XP was). Applications that are not used get uninstalled at the registry get cleaned from time to time.
Steam comes with community crapware, voice crapware, chat crapware and probably some unknows I dont know about.
Bragging about the ability to download from the internet seems fine, but the server in the other end must have a misrable connection becourse I don’t get any near my 20/20 Mbits even though I have changed the Steam network setting.
Sorry for my french and all my nagging. I dosen’t suits a pilot in EAF.
Well…times up. The game is installed.
EDIT: 16.53
And there were no shortcuts to the game. I had to go to the Steam spider in theytaskbar to start it…
I feel your pain Starfire, but I have used to Steam and now it doesnt seem so bad. Yes, its a pain in the ass that you can not choose where to install each game…

You missed something, I have it, Steam asks you if you want it created.

Churchill? Chamberlain? Surely skirting close with Godwins law there.
There’s nothing wrong with Steam. It’s your own paranoia, check the services and netstats before and after and you’ll only see the Steam services when the client is running. No different than bitTorrent.
Your concern should be for the s/w you just installed, post back when you’ve had your first go and you’ll see Steam was the least of your worries.
Guilty as charged
Its an occupational hazard. I have been contaminated by my work. I used to work with servers and firewalls and my second boss was very security consious. I am extreamly paranoid when it comes to IT security (but probably not perfect). Whenever I run torrents I make sure they and the torrentapplication are closed as soon as the download is finished.
Remember that “even paranoid people have enemies”
