They have left open options for third parties such as Hyperlobby thank goodness.

Phew! They had me worried for a bit there.

Matchmaking, hmm, can I search for a intelligent, good looking girl that likes flight sims then? :stuck_out_tongue:

Good luck with that one Mikke, if you find one make sure she got a sister :roflmao:

I’m glad I’m not going to be forced into using steam, I had one horrible experience with that program years ago and I never want to use steam again!

I’m glad I’m not going to be forced into using steam

Think you might be disappointed Classic. Check out the link I posted, there’s also a topic posted in Simhq - quite funny to see all the ranting going on. Steam is required to validate your install and (according to the il2 site) you will need a Steam ID to play.

I’m fine with it, not had any issues with Steam and think its great at what it does.

 and you used to be such a nice guy Simon :stuck_out_tongue:

I have used Steam for years without any problem at all.

Did I? I must be slipping… :stuck_out_tongue:

Nearly only “two weeks” now.

Silly question…but I have never downloaded a game before so this “Steam” business is all new to me.

If I get the game in the download version is it possible to back it up on an external HDD/Mem Stick incase my PC HDD should suffer a terminal failure?

Regards

Charlie.

You can easily backup games, also you can download them again and again …
I moved my whole Steam-folder once from one disk to another without problems.

Thanks for the very quick reply Paf

Just to clarify for my ignorant self

Is there going to be a boxed version available? If so I will be of course be buying the real thing not something plucked from the ether

Gareth,
As far as I can see there is a download version, a straight ‘boxed’ version

http://shop.ubi.com/store/ubiemea/en_GB/pd/ThemeID.8605700/productID.223684900

and the collectors boxed

http://shop.ubi.com/store/ubiemea/en_GB/pd/ThemeID.8605700/productID.221861800/IL-2_Sturmovik%3A_Cliffs_of_Dover_-_Collectors_Edition.html

Looks like only the UK is getting the boxed CE version from UBI right now. Ordered mine the other day. Delivery will take a little longer but better than an £8 next day service

Reading up on the Steam issues, it looks like you need a Steam account even for offline play. I’m still trying to find the post I saw about leaving an option for third parties like h/l :o , still it looks like whatever you do you have to go via steam first (stops cheating and does the updates for you etc).

You lucky b.'s

When I open the link, I got redirected to the dutch ubi site where only the standard download version is available. I am wondering if the british or german CE version compatible when it is installed here in the Netherlands.

You should have no problems Charlie running Steam it’s really excellent, patching automatically when needed and it’s got useful forums. If you do PayPal to buy games over Steam it’s even better

I was never here if it all goes wrong btw, that’ll be the Curse of Classic

Ming

Will any guys be prepared to acts as intermidiates for buying these versions?
Steam and Ubi ‘might’ work fine, but I would prefer a CD with an activation online.

I prefer CD version because I don’t like Steam

Whichever version you buy, you’ll still be activating on Steam.
