Help! Ati 1950 pro problems

Aaaaaaaah!

OK, took card back to very nice guys at my local shop. They fully tested it and it installed and ran fine!

Now I’ve stress tested the memory and CPU and they passed with flying colours so this only really leaves the mobo. Is there a utility out there along the lines of memtest86+ and prime95?

In the meantime I’ve stripped down to bare components , reseated CPU and reconnectd every cable…now reinstalling XP again! I may well cry like a girl if this doesn’t work. Anyone got a spare socket AM motherboard lying around?

keep us informed mate.

maybe if it’s the power supply, a new power thiny on the back that has more WATT’s can also do the trick

+1 on PSU, worth a try I think.

+2 on the PSU.
It is starting to sound like a power issue to the card.

Cheers for the suggestions guys!

Well, believe it or not it was down to a PCI wireless card. As soon as I removed this the ATi ran flawlessly…left it running 3Dmark 05 all day without a glitch. Hmmm, with this new rig I may well dust off my old FFB2

Cheers friends,

Blaze

LoL…Computers are as difficult to fathom as women sometimes…

Good to hear you have it in hand. So to speak

it"s fixed

good good!!

why letting it run the whole day the bench mark?

Basically I was stress testing the card. 3Dmark is fairly heavy on the graphics card so if there’s a problem this usually lets you know!

I’m off for a bottle of wine now! Cheers everyone

Good to hear!

Hmmm, wonder if it was because the cards together used too much power, or if it disturbed the graphics card in another way?

OK, here we go again! I’ve now got 1946 installed. What are the recommended settings for a Radeon 256MB 1950pro. When I set scenery to perfect it resulted in black textures (and I’ve been away far too long to remember these things!). Also, my old FFB stick is knackered so I’m kinda buggered at the moment for flying but hey,I’ll have tonnes of tweak time until I can find a good CHEAP stick. (Is there such a thing?)

TTFN,

Gary F

Blaze, I have a 1950XT and run at perfect settings all maxed out with no problem.

Have a look at this thread and you will see discussions by a few of us who benchmarked the ATI cards:

Jesus! Just did the Black Death track: -

2007-09-11 19:54:14 - il2fb
Frames: 2328 - Time: 145880ms - Avg: 15.958 - Min: 5 - Max: 34

Worse than my old rig! Any ideas?

What settings?

1024 * 768
4 * AA
program controlled AF
All in game maxed out

When I installed 1946 for the first time i got black streaks with the settings I used for the mergedparts with Pe2. I couldn’t figure out what was wrong. All forums of Ubi and Maddox couldn’t provide me with an sollution. I tried everything and came to the only possible cause left…card damaged…so I bought a new one…an Ati x1950 Pro 512 (AGP) …guess what…the same problems!!!

Again i tried everything…streaks and more streaks kept appearing…

now they’re gone…I installed it on my C:\ drive, it runs perfect in the most heavy mode i can think of… why does it run ok now? I don’t know…but it does…and I can’t bother why it works on C:\ (probably a setting or ini file that bugged my installations…who will say?).

The black graphics IS a known issue of Ati cards…

Christ! I’m doomed to never fly again!

I tried updating the drivers but on trying I got a window up titled “SEVERE!” and a message saying either the hardware or OS wasn’t compatible with the drivers and installation ceased!?! Anyone??

You aren’t by any chance using Vista, are you Blaze? Burn it now!!

I’m on XP SP2, and ATI Driver 8.351.0.0, no problems at all.

You don’t happen to be using a HP version of XP (or Vista)? That is common behaviour for HP computers who need HP versions of most drivers and refuse to install the usual graphics drivers.
No problems with Vista. I have used that card on both 32 and 64 bits versions, no problems whatsoever.

And have you installed eventual drivers that you got with the mobo?

VISTA? Christ, it took me 2 years before I trusted XP enough to install it, LOL.

It won’t take the ATi site drivers at all but I managed to get the updated ASUS ones and I’m now seeing figures more in line with you guys…glad to see them but concerned that this shows an underlying problem with the motherboard.

Anyhoo, almost at the flying stage of things at last! Just need some more info…my setup: -

Mobo: - ASRock SATA2-GLAN am2
CPU: - AMD X2 4800+
Memory: - 2 gig (4 x Crucial 512 matched pairs in dual channel mode)
GPU: - ASUS Radeon EAX1950pro 256M

What do you guys suggest as optimal settings bith via IL2 Setup and tweaking the conf.ini file?

What are the “must have” add ons? You know, IL2 stab type stuff etc

Who’s got an old TrackIR since I gave mine away (doh!!)

Cheers for all your help to date friends; look forward to chatting soon!

With the graph settings from il2 setup at max my x1950 pro runs geat…other settings i got streaks all over the screen.
