OK, trying to build a new rig so I can get some flying time in. Here’s my problem: -
On installing the graphics drivers XP boots up fine then around 10 seconds in the screen goes black (kind of like it would normally do on installing new drivers) and stays that way forcing a hard reboot. ANy ideas?
System details: -
GFX - Asus EAX1950pro (256meg)
CPU - Athlon 64 X2 4800+ (stress tested fine)
Memory - 2 gig matched OCZ ddr2 (memtest86 for 24 hours no errors)
Mobo - ASRock GoLiveSATA2-GLAN (cheap but seems fine)
PSU - HiPoint 600W
onboard HD audio
3 x HD
1 x DVD burner
Does the computer sounds like its still running?
Does it sounds like it still takes keybord commands (biiping when you hold severel keys down for some time)?
My gues is that it is either the PSU or the 1950 thats the problem.
I used to have the 1950 XT and the power requirements is extreme since it is on the 5Volt power outlet and not on the usual 12V. My PSU where not able for supply the required power all the time a gradually burned out.
Cooling problem?
Or it could be a hardware failure on the 1950. Have you tried to clean the radiator on the 1950?
Have you tried to clean the PSU?
Compressed air can be bought on bottles in electronic shops or a Hi-Fi stores.
Both the PSU and the gfx card are new and seem fine. XP now either goes to a black screen (the monitor does not go into standby but just sits fully powered up with no display) or freezes almost instantly (1-10 seconds). The CPU is running nice and cool and the graphics card is fine under windows basic VGA drivers (hasn’t locked up once).
What are the best drivers out there stability wise and I’ll try them?
It could be a problem with the card.
It sounds like you may have a power related problem with it. Most cards will boot with windows generic VGA drivers. It is when you put board specific drivers on that any failure will show up.
Try and test it in a friends PC if you can. My gut feel is a faulty GFX card
OK, took card back to very nice guys at my local shop. They fully tested it and it installed and ran fine!
Now I’ve stress tested the memory and CPU and they passed with flying colours so this only really leaves the mobo. Is there a utility out there along the lines of memtest86+ and prime95?
In the meantime I’ve stripped down to bare components , reseated CPU and reconnectd every cable…now reinstalling XP again! I may well cry like a girl if this doesn’t work. Anyone got a spare socket AM motherboard lying around?
Well, believe it or not it was down to a PCI wireless card. As soon as I removed this the ATi ran flawlessly…left it running 3Dmark 05 all day without a glitch. Hmmm, with this new rig I may well dust off my old FFB2
OK, here we go again! I’ve now got 1946 installed. What are the recommended settings for a Radeon 256MB 1950pro. When I set scenery to perfect it resulted in black textures (and I’ve been away far too long to remember these things!). Also, my old FFB stick is knackered so I’m kinda buggered at the moment for flying but hey,I’ll have tonnes of tweak time until I can find a good CHEAP stick. (Is there such a thing?)
When I installed 1946 for the first time i got black streaks with the settings I used for the mergedparts with Pe2. I couldn’t figure out what was wrong. All forums of Ubi and Maddox couldn’t provide me with an sollution. I tried everything and came to the only possible cause left…card damaged…so I bought a new one…an Ati x1950 Pro 512 (AGP) …guess what…the same problems!!!
Again i tried everything…streaks and more streaks kept appearing…
now they’re gone…I installed it on my C:\ drive, it runs perfect in the most heavy mode i can think of… why does it run ok now? I don’t know…but it does…and I can’t bother why it works on C:\ (probably a setting or ini file that bugged my installations…who will say?).
