BoBII wings of victory release 26th august

seems this is going to be released in the next few weeks. I downloaded the 2 movies that are linked at the bottom of the page but it looked a bit arcadey to me and no in cockpit shots, maybe it was just the way it had been filmed.

screenshots look good though but having heard little about it i’m not overly otimistic. Anyone else heard any rumours about what the game will be like?

I’m sure I’ll get a copy regardless, but I felt the same about the movies.

I worked on the assumption that they would make the game look as good as possible on the movies. If that is the best it can look then it’s no major leap forward. Still, it will be nice to experiment with the 6DoF in preparation for the real BoB

Well i have pre-ordered mine already, just hopeing for a decent offline campaign. Also to re-acquaint myself with the Southern Coastline of our glorious isles, if its a true to life coastline i reckon learning it now will put me in good favour for when Olegs BOB is released. Oh and amazon are supplying a BOB DVD with every pre-order, not bad for £17.

If you hated the original Rowan’s BoB (as some people did) you will not like BoB:WOV. It is basically the same game with updated graphics and a few (relatively minor) new features.

From what I’ve gathered:

As graphics are concerned, BoB:WOV won’t have the smooth 3D models you find in IL2. The terrain, on the other hand, I think looks better than IL2. More varied and more colourful. Clouds may look as good as the new clouds in PF, and the AI can’t see through them.

Judging from the screenshots the cockpits will look nearly as good as those in IL2. Combined with a fully adjustable zoom level and field of view, they will be great with TIR/6DOF. They are also clickable, though I never used that much in the original BoB.

I am sure that the lack of multiplayer will turn many of you off. But for me the campaign in BoB can be just as fun as online flying. Formations of hundreds of airplanes, very authentic sounding radio chatter, ground control that gives vectors-to-target, and some very clever comms (e.g. tell your leader he is clear or not). Maybe I am too pessimistic but I am afraid we won’t get all that in Oleg’s BoB…

The AI was pretty good in BoB - better than IL2 I think. I’m not talking about dogfighting AI, but more about how your wingmen interact: e.g. they won’t run off on their own chasing a lone smoking bandit like in IL2.

I believe they have also reworked the FMs/control iput. In BoB the controls were really sensitive, which made flying (especially t/o and landing) difficult. I thought this seemed rather realistic, but then I am no pilot

If you like single player campaigns like in Falcon4, MigAlley you will love BoB:WOV. If you’re only after online flying, forget about it.

Johan have you flown this new version already?

Going from the review at SimHq and Shockwaves forum the Cockpits look great, better than IL2 IMHO, quite like the idea of being able to click all the switches and such so I can try a proper pre-takeoff in Spit.

Big on my list is 6DOF, hearing a Merlin engine (fingers crossed), changing weather effects during a mission and a new FM to play with. Plus the orginal BoB campaign is suppose to be a masterpeice.

Rowan made flight sims for the RAF and whatever they did was based on data, not subjective guesswork

The greatest thing is hearing the engine sounds in BOBII. They seem to be the REAL thing, or real close.

There are real Merlin and DB 605 engine sounds in the game.
Sold!!
Never know they might change their minds on the Multiplayer in the future…mind you Oleg’s BoB should be out by then…drool

EDIT - just seen these of the Sunset post by Bader, wow!!

Thanks Swoop and other reporters

I’m in mate that looks stunning

It was only the terrain that made me fly it less and less ironically so glad to hear about the new stuff

Absolute blast trying (floatfloatfloatBOSH!) to land the Spitfire and the free flight mode in there

Here’s hoping

Rowan’s Mig Alley btw is where I first met Ian Boys online - on 2400 baud I think it was

Online do not go there or pain all the way

Ming

No, I was just reflecting what is semi-officially known  I’ve been flying Rowan’s BoB regularly ever since its release (even more than IL2), so I know more or less what to expect.

Those are stunning screenshots Swoop!

There’s a thread on SimHQ about the terrain in BoB:WOV http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/boards/bbs/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=130;t=000077

Also expect: chain radar, ground observers, ground control, barrage balloons, squadron morale, persisting damage in the campaign and ground target repairs, dynamic supply system and huge bomber raids. Nothing new here as it was all in the original Rowan’s BoB

Yes the Rowan MP code was a mess and that’s why they decided to drop it altogether for BoB:WOV.

Preordered. £17.99 inc delivery from Play.com. Looking good.

3 nice screenshots:

WB.

Wow thanks Whiskey, that’s not Rowan’s BoB. Which is the point yes

Ah good news - thanks Johan. Saves heartache and single-play is ok with me

My jaw just hit the floor, you have to see this brand new movie from BoB2, with a proper startup, clicking all the switches and pumping and pressing stuff, then starting that engine, wow the sound!!, pull back the canopy and lean your head out the cockpit, (6DOF) yep bloody lean out and look down the runway, I could feel the wind in my hair, power up and just watch and listen to this lovely takeoff. Absolutely awesome.

I’ll won’t say anymore and spoil it for you, just have you speakers up loud  I’ll shut up now and let you get busy watching ~ http://www.shockwaveproductions.com/bob/movies/bob2_takeoff_landing.zip

just watched it, really nice. But as always for me the important matter will be the Flight Model.

And it is always good that Oleg has some competition

I like the way it moves about on takeoff, squirming as the power was added then the wings moving about just after takeoff trying to acquire further lift, these are good signs IMO. The landing also gave hints at the modelling, I’m sure the wings were moving about due to wind turbulence and popping the flaps out had a nice effect.

It looks good, but as you say proof is in the eating and I’m hungry for wov  and breakfast

Looks good, the previous game they did looked good but i had to give in as it was buggy and would’nt run well on my system.

Well that is, but he hasn’t
As stunning as it looks, if there is no online play it seriously cuts down the longetivity of the sim/game IMO.
I may or may not get it, it cetainly looks fantastic and I like eye candy, if it had online there would be no hesitation, I would have ordered it already.

Im keeping my powder dry on this one, waiting for the comments from those that buy it first.

Rowan’s flight sims always left me a little dissapointed, so it will be interesting to see what Shokwave have done with this.

The 'pits do look good but the ground is poor from low level, doesnt look like they changed this much if at all from the original.

The draw distance is great on this pic and I really love the ground detail, all handcrafted and as it was in the summer of 1940. These lot are just back from bombing Biggin and my home Kenley on the 18th of August 1940.

Looks great to me, check out this link where they are talking about the terrain.

Mind you isn’t it about protecting this place, London ~

and getting stuck into this lot ~

It does look nice, though like JR I’m going to hold fire until you lot have shelled out your hard earned.

If you look at CF3 with the right terrain it looks ok.

Nitpicker alert… what is that Hakenkruze doing down there on that Dorniers tail fin?

lol aye, thought wasn’t allowed?!

and on the Stuka!

tbh, from the videos i can’t say i am that impressed, the pumpy bit looks nice and the radio commands asking tower which way the wind is blowing look like nice but overall the game seemed to lack something

as with the others, I shall wait for someone else to get it

You can just see the Hakenkruze in this poor picture
