B25 Training Video finished!

Here’s another video I have made; this time it’s a training video.

‘How to perform level bombing with the B-25 at 10,000 feet and 6x500lb bombs.’

Hope my Scots accent is understandable
(Click the picture)

If you want to try it, click HERE for the mission.

Any feedback appreciated. Particularly, any info on why the TAS on the bombadier’s dial is 5-10% too high, though I suspect a bug in the Norden sight?

“Zip is invalid or corrupted”

I got it fine Mikke, try again…

great video Joe m8!

looks like it takes a bit of practice

I shall learn this as I have now set up all my bombsight controls…

Brings memories of flying the single player campaign in B17 The Mighty 8th recorrecting at the last second for crosshair drift

Now I get more then 165 kB.

Good video!

Still think I prefer going in low and fast, but good to know how the bombsight works.

Excellent. Nice one Joe ‘Cecil B DeMille’ 90.

Henceforth, you shall be known as ‘Cecil’ pronounced ‘Seesill’!

WB.

Very nice video Joe, at that altittude can flak still get you? because in that video I didn’t see any flak whatsoever.

Sterling.

Thanks guys

Sterling, there was no flak in that mission, just to keep it simple. But 10,000 ft should keep you out of range of small AA guns (HMG’s, 20mm, 25mm, 30mm, 37mm, 40mm). Above 10,000 ft, you will be in range of medium flak guns (75mm, 3 inch, 85mm, 88mm, 90mm). At 16,000ft up to 50,000ft the heavy flak guns can reach you (105mm, 128mm).

LINKThe average bombing altitude of from 7,000 to 12,000 feet insured a high degree of accuracy, but similarly brought the B-25 into the deadly range of the highly respected and effective German 88 mm Cannon.

Yeh high enough to stay out of the range of the small guns that pop holes in your wings but low enough to get right into the correct height for the huge guns that take your wings off

hmm… i wonder how hard it would be from 30,000 ft :stuck_out_tongue: lol

Excellent video again Joe. Thx alot. What a fine introduction to work with the Norden BS. Fantastic.

That is great work Joe

I think the ASI must be a bug, it appears to be adding 3% per 1,000 feet whereas it should be 2% per 1,000 feet - back to the TAS chart on the kneepad !

My problem was always the drop in altitude with the level stabiliser. Haven’t had time to try it yet, but are you saying that if the aircraft is trimmed for level flight before engaging it then it will maintain altitude? Or do you need to use elevator trim?

(PS Mikke - fast and low? I’ve got some nice tracks demonstrating the capabilities of the B25 at low level, nowhere to post them at the moment, but might be of interest for those that haven’t flown the aircraft and think bombers are boring  )

As regards flak, by using the bombsight you are commiting yourself to flying straight and level into the gun zone, so it is a case of crossing your fingers and sitting on your flak helmet. The only way to protect the bomber flight is for an aircraft that is not bombing to go in first using an evasive pattern. This will attract the nasty stuff away from the bombers, at least in the early stages of the attack.

Many Thanks PeeGee.

The ASI, I think is OK:

At 10,200 feet, IAS shows 215mph, TAS shows 260mph.

Use THIS CONVERTER and you get 258mph.

The problem seems to be in the Norden Sight’s computer. I have heard (though not confirmed) that there is no such problem in the He111, but there is no nifty wee IAS/TAS instrument (or is there?).

But I guess I will stick to 10,000ft for bomb runs where the plane flies at 215mph on full throttle. It does stay level with the level stabiliser now! And set the sight TAS to 250mph. One of the 3 pairs is sure to hit dead centre.

Flak avoidance - so who volunteers to be the decoy? EAF Bomber Group looking for volunteers…apply within, if no suitable candidates then the Adjutant will have to step forward and earn his keep

Seriously, it aint that bad, PeeGee. There are two nice B-25 scripted dogfights in F16 server over Normandy. Both of these I have flown as a single B-25 at 10,000ft and taken minimal damage from Flak. The one time I went on a low level attack was when I died! (Ming, any way to ‘borrow’ these missions for the EAF server? Do you have friends at F16? I don’t see them listed in the download page HERE )

Oh, the other bug fix is the time delay on ship bombing. Bombs no longer pass through ships, so you can set a bomb delay when hitting them. Makes life easier for low level attacks and dive bombing

Dogfight missions Joe? Scripted or non-scripted? You have to delete the objectives line probably only to convert them. Sure thing will bundle them up and send them on later mate, thanks for pointing to that mission download site

I’m up for B-25 missions but I’ve only taken off in one once and never landed yet. Oh the confidence I instill

Ming

nice video

next up must be a fly under a brigde inverte with the same cool commentary

Excellent video Joe!

good video!!

Maybe one called “Siily Things to do in a B25” ?

Chimney Sweep

Wet the Wingtip

Low Level Bridge Bombing

And of course the famous “I only died 15 times to get this shot”

You beat me to it PeeGee.

LOL! nice PeeGee.

I wasn’t even gonna try the ‘inverted under bridge’ challenge

Gah beat me to it too! i had a go slightly drunk last night:

Firstly will i fit?

Yup…ok

Upside down will be a doddle then…

I call this one spot the B25, if you look reeeeeeally carefully

Alas I didn’t make it though, was gonna try again tonight sober… and I still am cos I need to do it now
