I got Armed Assault for 5€ in a local store and the patches up to 1.14 were included. No DVD needed to play. MAybe you can find the same at your home.

Is the DVD requirement only in the original game? Is it out with the 1.14 patch?

Bob, sorry I don’t know. I just know, that I don’t have to put in the DVD.
Two little things in the game are really fascinating me after a few days of playing. The sound and view simulation. Not that the sounds are overwhelming or bad, its the modeling of soundwaves that really gives a realistic atmosphere.
For example: You prepare an ambush for an enemy convoy which is driving on a winding mountain-pass. Slowly you can hear the enemy comming nearer, but the sound is fading in and out, because hills are blocking the sound.
Or you are by foot and hear a heli coming and then fading away and you think the air is clear. You continue your way and suddenly the heli comes out of a near canyon 
The second thing I like and never saw in a sim before is the simulation of the human eye gets used to light or darkness.
