Splash

Really Splash? Nice one mate I can now reveal the truth then. I swore never to mention anything er, controversial again - I’ve been good I hope you notice

It’s not WW2 so not a proper ground war sim but it’s come on in leaps and bounds since the early Battlefield. Which was 1942 WW2 but just a fun game to pile into - people rushing around in the vehicles, headless chickens and so on.

This squad stuff has livened it up loads. Squad leader becomes a mobile spawn point and if he keeps his head down a bit he can get the team closer and closer to the objective. With a few squad leaders in there you end up in massive firefights as twenty of you rush strongpoints, then people stay around setting up the defensive perimeter under the control of the Commander of the squads who’s parked up somewhere out of the action bringing down arty strikes and dropping supplies and sending over the UAVs, calling out enemy positions

You won’t have been on the end of an artilllery strike I hope to God mate but you’ll have been under that crumpy arty in CoDUO with the boiling of the ground and the ringing in the ears and that, hitting the deck and your vision blurring in the pressure wave. Really convincing with medics running around propping people up and people screaming for their mothers. Sh*t myself the first time - wtf is happening - I thought it was me graphics card going up in smoke

Battlefield 42 looked like a comic. This one looks like the real thing in very many places. Terrain from an aircraft is jaw-dropping. Flying the helicopters is almost as good as some early chopper sims. Hmm you can use SmartShaders to make it even less cartoony. Back to ATI next time yes

Coincidentally as it’s you Splash I got an Unlock yesterday when I got my field promotion to Lance-Corporal. The L-85A1 SA-80. Not used it yet.

The ranking and stats stuff. I don’t usually get into that but in this one it’s all available in your BFHQ page. Difference to normal gamey stats is that it’s like America’s Army and your stats are at online HQ as it were. You earn promotions by winning points for fighting or leading well and part of your icon in game (only close-friendly icons) is your rank so you get to take over some things based on your seniority. If you apply for Commander and you outrank someone you’re preferred by the ingame system for that post if two apply for it - that sort of thing

This thing about kids in there and everywhere. I think of it like this. You’re fighting alongside your mates and against something that looks like the enemy. How much more intelligent can a 14yr-old be than an AI soldier? All the processing’s already in the young sh*tehawk’s swede  so much quicker reactions than AI…

So the mildly annoying rabble in there are like replicant drones with a cyborg implant of a human brain that happens to be possibly idiotic but can take cover properly and under orders maybe do some cool flanking manoeuvers and so on. They’re definitely better than the AI anyway. Mostly

lol admin

Best maybe to take care when signing up mate, you’re using your CD key then so if you try to change your callsign later it’s a right palaver I think. I’d use DikSplash all one word when you sign in first time to keep things simple. After that initial farting around it’s only maybe thirty seconds to sign on and get into one. Punkbuster is in there and filters, patch on the way to further improve multiplay - no sign of any obvious cheating going on

Ming

Shit Ming, I can’t have DikSplash. :frowning:
I used it in Battlefield Vietnam but can’t remember the password.

I’m now called

BasraBill
or
AfghanVet

Splash

BasraBill

Ok mate will keep an eye out for him. You need to join a squad to use the ingame voice comms but I’ve not set that up to send, I can hear squad leader though if I’m not him as I increasingly am - to be a tactical mobile spawn point not to be clever. I prefer to be wingman as you know cos I never have any idea where I’m supposed to be going. This plate in the head messes up the compass

I don’t care what side I’m on no worries - and that serverside balance-enforcement can be annoying when you’re doing well in the US army and then you get bumped over to join that bloke who couldn’t see the tanks behind him. The Information Minister that was it. Mother Of All Battles lmao Baby and Rattles more like

Oi less of it I’m a Lance-Corporal I’ll have you know and that’s with no rank-cranking out in the desert under a tarp. Yes that’s what I thought we’ll have some of that we don’t care Sarge

Hmm thinking on it Splash you can do that ‘Retrieve Account’ thing from the logon screen. I did that when I got the full game, forgot my identity details (one too many arty barrages what?) and it found DanSaint from somewhere and off I went

Battlefield Vietnam

No worries it’s nothing like that one. Not much jungle and lots of city battles

Oh yeah just remembered very important info - you can set the Chinese voices to be in English in setup watch out for that one. I only found this out the other day I’ve been wandering around a bit “Come again?” fighting on the Chinese/raghead sides

Ming

Just noticed this. Had to share
