Yak1s coming to an airfield near you soon!!

Those 109 driver will now have to start looking over their shoulders…

Yes they have to,
careless 109 pilots can be fast victims of the Yak, especially down low. Get them low and into a turnfight
The 109 still has the climb over the Yak to zoom away though.

So what is the verdict? Is Yak good enough since Lagg3 seem quite bad in comparison to Bf109’s from what I’ve been reading…

Flying the Yak1 against 109F4 is a bit like flying the Spit Mk.I agaínst 109E

Now I was away from Il2 too long to get the ingame reference here if that was what you were implying?

But in real combat according to some records I looked up online, these were suppose to be a match in climbing speed with Spit having some advantage in level flight speed. So I’d say it’s a good thing then? Having matched planes for some good and intense combat missions where ruskie is not just a pray dominated by 109 in just about everything as it seem to be the case with Lagg from some IL2:BOS forum impressions.

Of course I’d like this game to be as accurate as they can make it, but then again, i’d like to see couple of planes in it that are close in performance to be a good base for some missions where odds are more even since I find those best fun.

I think it will be the Yak turns better but the 109 is faster and climbs like a rocket. Lower down it should be a little better for the Yak but the best solution is to stay away from the front  Outnumber the buggers is best.

Hmm according to this lengthy but interesting read, I’d say Spit Mk.I was better climber and turner then 109E, but worse diver. Quite a good match and 109 definitely not dominating in anything much, especially not the climb performance like you assumed.

As for Yak1, not sure how it was since I did not read about it yet, but I still hope it’s a fair match because it makes combat more interesting that way. I’ve seen in RoF that they did not make planes true to records you can find online so it’s obviously all down to how they make it in game, and not what we read about planes. My hopes are to have at lest couple of planes that are close in performance in game for the fun factor.

That don’t mean they should fly the same, flying and managing them should be different and simulated properly, but given that two experienced pilots know what they are doing, I’d hope for an even chances in a duel, that Lagg obviously is not according to what alpha testers say about it. Well, hope Yak’s somewhat level the odds between fighters, they don’t have to be better, just closer

Well well well…guess what?

I updated BoS tonight and there’s a Yak 1 in the hangar !

I only flew it briefly and it seems to be A LOT more of a combatant than the LaGG.

It does have one thing in common with the Spit tho… up or down only flaps.

Was this correct for the Yak or is it a game in progress thing?

Cool!!!

Been waiting for this one and multiplayer

I read a bit about Yaks and it seems correct, only used flaps to land and did so only at very last seconds before touchdown.

But it seems that it’s only 1 less thing to manage and worry about since you can’t jam or brake what you don’t use in combat, and it seems Yaks were turning good enough without any flaps.

Looking forward to this game, just not happy with the way 777 does things regarding to planes. Buying planes to fly is plain stupid and the very reason I won’t be joining Bloody April in ROF (I bought planes they won’t use, and did not buy all those that they will and I’m to pissed about it to bother with it further).

Now IL2: BoS does separation again, owners of normal version won’t be able to play missions where RUS have La5’s or they will be thrilled to know that because they did not preorder, they can go in Lagg’s against those preorder Fw 190 A-3’s, yeehaaaa.

BTW I will probably preorder since I am willing to pay up this price if game is good, and it seem to be. But I still hate this business model and will never see it different since, IMHO, the bad things about it outnumber the good ones by far and the guy making this decision should be stoned by Simming community :).

They have said they will use a different way with Bos and instead you would buy a new map with the planes included, if Bos does well. Likely another Russian map but maybe a Pacific one with 777 influence in the distant future.

Just bought this ride…fancy this against a FW190

Haha congrats, I will be joining you as a wingman in that one for sure
