WoV:BoB2 Patch 2.06 is out

Great report Whiskey, brought it all back, thanks for that  You’re dead right about IL2 being more polished, but there’s just something about BoB that makes me want to get into it. The mass bombers and flak, planes everywhere, or as you enter circuit and roll back the canopy to sound of the wind and roar of that Merlin. Landing and taking off is actually hard.

Multiplayer and flying with “real” pilots would have made this sim.

Due to all the CTDs I never got very far in, flying the set missions. The patch before sorted those but I just never got my head around the campaign system, is there an easy way of setting it up? Not mad about all the micro management (for now) just want to join a Squadron and get regular flying missions.

VAC?? sound cool and when I first heard of the Buttkicker I almost fell of my seat laughing, but after reading the reviews it does sound fun. Heard setting it up is quite hard?

Hi Swoop,

In the manual pdf there is a chapter that explains how to set up a “single pilot campaign”. This should reduce the strategic micromanagement. Just keep in mind that this is a sure way to lose the campaign, however

In short, right click on the << button in the bottom left hand corner. This brings up a window where you can set your preferences for time compression, and select for which squadron(s) you would like to be notified when they take off. E.g. you can set it so that you get a pop up window only when 43 Sqn scrambles.

Then you should set the Directives screen, which automates the strategic decicions. What I usually do in a RAF campaign is task all 10/12 Group sqns to patrol over airfields, and 2 or 3 sqns from 11 Group to patrol over Coastal targets. Make sure the option “Automatic Scrambling” is checked, so that the AI will scramble a number of sqns automically when a raid is detected. This should give you a basic air cover throughout the day, while most 11 Group sqns are on stand by for interceptions.

From there you can let the campaign run itself and you’ll get notified when your sqn comes into action.

And if you really don’t feel like doing the strategic management at all, but still want to get a flavour of the campaign, maybe this is for you:

It’s a series of campaign savegames, so you can just jump in and fly.

Hi Johan,

I have the game also now but it is still asking a lot from my laptop
I am adjusting the graphics so that I can still play it with a so so framerate:o
But I find it still a lot better then IL2.

Hey Johan, thanks for that  Checking the link out now.

Good info about how to use comms with ground control for intercepttions in BoB2: http://shockwaveproductions.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8049

Amazing how much depth there is in this sim
