World War II Online Action Video

Hello chaps…

Some allied guys (11th Hussars) made this video of WWII Online

http://www.mudders.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/

follow the link and there is a right click save as link there

Shows a bit of what wwii ol can be once you get into it

Some of the fun silly stuff and some of the gritty fighting to the last man stuff

by the way the tanks being blown up by what looks like a rifle are being shot by rifle grenades

Whoa!

Despite the crappy graphics, It looks amazing and hard to comprehend the enormity of the war going on in real time?

How the hell do all the battles get coordinated, and who gets the boring jobs (like driving supply trucks, though the one in the film did manage to squish an enemy soldier)?

The game has its own high command structure on either side…

players can apply for jobs in the allied high command (AHC) and if they pass a test can get in. the commander in chief has been playing the game for years and has a free lifetime subscription to the game given to him from the devs

each sides high command can place attack objectives on bridges and towns they wish to destroy / take, and defense orders on bridges they wish to have repaired by sappers

Certain ranks of AHC members can send out .allied messages that go to the entire allied player base

As for driving trucks and whatnot, Mobile Spawn Points - which is one of their usages are driven by players who maybe need to go afk for a while - they drive to a destination and deploy… or the mission leader can drive the MSP so he can manage the troops heading to the town and the reports of enemy movements being fed through the channels without worrying about actually being involved in the action himself

Everyone chips in to do resupply from time to time when it is required - it can be quite good fun too, loading up a truck and driving for 20 minutes whilst have a joke and a laugh with your mates can be more fun that it sounds, i did it for a couple of hours straight the other day - was a hoot!

Jumping Jellybeans

Why didn’t you tell us about this Insight! The Chinese called it right - the worth of a picture I mean.

Keeping all the goodies to yourself how dare you

Got any recruiting info mate I’m in. WW2 does this to people.

Filmed on location

Was there a free two weeks or something once? Wouldn’t mind a bash at that or a trial (paid-for) month or summat?

Dunkerque, Ostend. No one tells us anything

Ming

lol

I have been trying to tell you all  just never had any video footage to back up my claims of battle!

I don’t think there is a free trial on at the moment… however.

The license for the game is about 8 or 9 quid, and the monthly fee is about 8 quid a month, so just signing up for one month your still less out of pocket than you would be if you bought a brand new game off the shelf

www.wwiionline.com

The interface is a bit sticky and the game has its issues but bloody hell its good fun  My in game name is Insight1 if you want to get in touch… most players are helpful though and will explain how to use your radio channels to best effect etc

Once you get over the initial clunkyness you don’t notice it and its AAA / Fighter Pilot / Navy Captain / Tank driver goodness all the way

There is a ranking system that releases better equipment to you as you gain rank, binoculars get issued at Captain and you will be amazed at the difference these can make…until you get them - stick with someone who has some

I didn’t even see a german soldier for about the first few days but was assured they were there by the fact that I, and people around me were dropping dead occaisonally

I have been trying to tell you all

Yes I know that it’s irony. It’s me here you should have suspected a hint of irony. No hoof jokes I’m a married man btw

Ok mate I’ll sign up after seeing that movie, looks very cool, do you guys do Friday night late-until-laters?

Can I fly the Cobra btw? (see irony note above)

Those planes coming down wow and I love being a flak-boy. Favourite position in BF. Tanks are two-man crew are they? Can I drive a tank from the Normandy beach-head down to Caen? Ok almost to Caen then back again

I’ve been reading books about the Caen/St Lo armoured-drive all summer.

Dickie’s Bridge?! I’m stoked mate

Ming

tanks can be multi crewed by 2 players or driven solo and the player switches between driver, gunner and commander

multi crewing is great fun and the driver continues with the throttle as set when you switch away from him so he keeps driving while you admire the view from atop the turret

the map covers most of the UK i think, the training grounds are in scotland somewhere and I have flown over and around ramsgate defending against heinkels doing strategic bombing…

quite a cool element is that strategic bombing helps… if you bomb the enemies factories, they produce tanks, Anti tank guns, vehicles etc at a slower rate

you can drive right across europe pretty much if you wish, i think I saw someone saying the map is 230km wide

the squad I fight with are www.40commando.com an old squad in the game with some players that have been playing for about 5 years

Took the King’s Shilling for a month’s trial as Mington1 and noticed…

Hmmm

I put in Insight01 so you’re laughing mate

Or you would be when you say 01??! can’t you bloody read Ming! - and I say just kidding witcha! I’m fully binary

Wilco Insight I’ll look at your 40 Commando site, can’t wait for a spot of WW2 big-country action - with shaders too I see. Cool

Tanker action I’m after but will start as a PBI I bet - oily rag

I hope there’s no snipers in there <rhetorical but I hate them>

Flame-throwers? For the snipers I mean

Ming

nooo

I’m insight1

Some odd bloke will probably get my free time lol thanks for trying though

I think you have to go up a rank or 2 before you get tanks, first being the A13 - you do get to drive about in a Vickers though which are good fun

No snipers… any snipers that there are, are just people who are very very good with the lee enfield / mauser…

all iron sights  no scopes

the rifles have adjustable range on the sights too hehe takes a bit of getting used to

I’m insight1

Yes I know

Some odd bloke will probably get my free time lol thanks for trying though

Is he winding me up? An odd bloke will get your free time mate what are you like

Pulling teeth ain’t in it

Ok show me where the bad guys are… gun? What gun? Cheese-wire mate they don’t like it when the head falls off oops!

Ming

whats ur in game name then?

the training grounds are in scotland

Noooo, keep him away, if I see any cobras up here I’ll have to get my hispanos out :stuck_out_tongue:

Had a quick go last night to check it’s all installed ok Insight

You’re right it’s not BF2. But that hardly mattered

I spawned in as a couple of guys were moving a six-pounder, saw a plane circling, wandered around a bit around the roads and fields. Can’t map crouch or hit the deck keys - so I’m hiding until I get those working

This looks really good.

The teamwork going on - bloody hell it reminds me OFP but less clunky. Everything seems sort-of open and very realistic - strangely

Pleased with it so far mate. Mington1 I am in there following your well-known 1 suffix. This is a reference to my earlier joke when I pretended to get your callsign wrong but you skimmed it - I hope you got your free time by now

Learning curve is long I think in this one sorry but I’ll get there it looks kickass to be back in WW2 again with team-oriented people and real missions - thanks!

FAQ printout came to almost 25mm thick. Where to bloody start

Ming

lol

skimming is something I have a habit of doing when at work cos im busy as a mofo at the moment

I linked you to the boot camp board in the 40 commando forum which has lots of cool sticky threads about killing things

I have no idea what the default keymap is so for prone and duck I can’t really help…

Make sure you bind:

Prone and duck
Sprint
Rifle range adjust up and down
binoculars
reload

Rebind your Anti Tank Gun controls and your tank controls, air controls, truck controls etc… there are various categories and you will need to deploy / change gears / start and stop your engine etc

Whilst stationary, never leave your engine running or the torrent of abuse will be on its way… audio is very important in the game

You can get access to the allied teamspeak server by registering http://www.alliedhq.wwiionline.com/forum/index.php at the AHC forums… use your in game name Mington01

then you can access the TS server…

address is endround.com

Login as registered with the same username and password as you have on the forums.

It takes a while after registering to auto register you on the TS server… 40 commando members usually put 40 comm after their TS nickname so you can spot them - our channel is about 3/4 of the way down

don’t worry too much about the FAQ, get in there and the lads will gladly answer any questions

Area chat when covertly approaching an enemy installation = court martial

Randomly firing your gun while doing the above = same

umm… don’t openly insult anyone directly (i am sure you wont but just warning you due to the way these things are dealt with by CRS, its more strict than most games) on the game or in the forums as it is considered a breach of the terms of service and they do ban peoples accounts if they feel the need.

I avoid the forums and just play the game - there is plenty in the 40 comm boot camp and training boards to keep you going anyway.

I’ll be online tonight if your about and you can stick with me while I chase tanks about with satchel charges

Thanks very much Insight!

Nope I’m out tonight - thinking of Friday nighter and weekends maybe

umm… don’t openly insult anyone directly

Er, that’s more your line mate. Archive of Ming remember

But noted thanks!

Yep I knew (been around so long) to go steady and not go blasting away in an unfamiliar game.
Have to find them first anyway, slow-walking was never going to do it

And the chain-of-command role-playing thing is what I’m looking for, that’s not a bother at all. Discipline laddie

I’ll get in there offline and train up a bit, cheers mate!

Ming

umm… don’t openly insult anyone directly

Er, that’s more your line mate. Archive of Ming remember

quite, I get straight to the point rather than all this Minglish nonsense :stuck_out_tongue:

Once you get over the initial curve m8 it all comes together and you can enjoy the running about and hiding in bushes without pulling out your knife to attack the tank with rather than a satchel :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks mate

I’ve registered at AlliedHQ and printed out the TS server info-

Could you tell me please:

Gamename
Squad
Valid gamename
Squadroom header

Sorry to be a pain Insight but belt and braces as a fall-back in case I get lost sussing it out - tell you what the whole thing is bloody gigantic

40 commando members usually put 40 comm after their TS nickname so you can spot them - our channel is about 3/4 of the way down

After the nickname ta got that.

use your in game name Mington01

lol

I missed that the first time we’re Brothers of the Frisbee apparently

Ming

PS ah 40 is one channel and the stuff in the TS Help shot might be exactly what I need to get going… but I’ll still check with you - you’ll tell me later. Assume nothing that’s me. I’m not afraid of being thought to be an idiot. Just as well really oi who said that

Could you tell me please:

Gamename
Squad
Valid gamename
Squadroom header

Not sure what u mean, sorry m8

Gamename is your name as it appears in game.
Squad would be 40 Commando
Valid gamename… err… see gamename?? (no idea where the questions relate to so no context makes it hard for me to understand what u mean)
Squadroom header… hmm does this mean TS channel?

Our TS channel is usually “[HQ3] 2nd Armor Bde - Ch2”

Sometimes we can be found in [HQ3] 2nd Armor Bde - Ch1 or [HQ3] 2nd Armor Bde - Ch3 though

Sorry I didn’t get what you meant

Is this stuff the AHC forums is asking u for?

No worries mate I’ll sort it out

I was looking at this helpful shot:

http://www.thetrainer.info/teamspeak%20help.htm#table%20A

Looks straightforward I’ll sort it - thanks!

Ming

Ah! lol

Yeh,

Game and squad: Mington01 40 Commando
