Wood Boats, Anyone?

As Y’all have been enjoying yourselves at “Operation Grappa in our bellies”:D. Ive had pretty good Holiday on this side of the Pond, at a wood boat show and cruise. I was in a 1954 Chris Craft and went up a scenic river here in Florida. We saw some Wild Boar, Eagles, Huge Alligators and alot of wood boats:).
Here are a couple shots:

Figured you would like the one of the cockpit looks like an old aircraft. Sorry no wildlife shots, coming soon:o

Looks pretty Os

Are alligators protected now?
Clearly weren’t when that first dash-board (instrument panel) was build

Beautiful shots, thx

Interesting looking stuff, sounds like there is some interesting wildlife to be seen!

None of them have any cow horns on the front

Amazing shots there, Osprey.

What class! Great wildlife and wood boat!

Nice pictures!

Having been out shooting in +4 degrees C I do envy the temps you seem to have there now.

Thanks for the pics Os. I’d love to do something like that one day.

WB.

That is one gorgeous boat. Must have been quite nostalgic.

They are now Painter, unless they attack Humans. The dashboard shot is of a 1957 Chris Craft and I’m sure there were no regulations at that time.
Glad you enjoyed the shots fellas.

Now the only thing that remains are the animal pictures!
And…the dashboard is not good enough…

Seriously, I am very angry of poachers killing animals for their skin and to earn money on it:mad:. Why kill them, when you don’t need to? Leave them alone…:frowning:

Same for any animal.

Yea, your right a Animals life is so much more important than a Humans…
But I take it that you don’t have many Sharks or Alligators that mame people in Norway. I think you might look at it differently if you decide to go running one morning and the next thing you get attacked by a Alligator, yes it happens and I think all too often…

But I take it you dont have a problem with dangerous Reptiles in Norway…

Nope, us Europeans have already hunted em all to extinction. In ireland, we don’t even have snakes. Job done:D

This is our most dangerous predator now:

(Jan was eaten ¼ sec after taking this, but fortunately her camera tasted awful)

Oh god save us all!!! It pretty dangerous though, its a type of Super Giant Weasle that lives in caves that it digs with it’s dagger-like claws. No human remains have ever been found in their lairs, suggesting that they totally eat the bones and everything! We call it the BAD-ger. oh yeah! It’s one mean mutha!
:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

This is one of the brave badger hunters we have trying to stop their evil consumption of people!

The watermelon is what super-hard badger hunters eat and in the bottom of the photo, you can see a human childs head. This will be used to lure them out of their caves by kicking it across a field!

honest…!

Crocodile tooth: Mohr Scale 8

Marine Plywood: Mohr Scale 2

Are you bonkers

Great writeup thanks Oz!

Ming

:frowning:

Sorry, did not mean to offend, especially not against the struck victims and its families.:frowning:

I think it was a misunderstanding. I’m sorry if I provoked any negative emotions.

What I was trying to say was that I do not like the hunting of them for their skin. And only that. Self defence or killing them for human safety I have no problem against. I am very sorry and aware of the deaths by alligator attacks, so I understand if this animal (and my earlier post) are hatred.

About dangerous reptiles in Norway: Yes, indeed. I would probably have another opinion if I lived in your area.

These deaths are by incident, and not provoked by human hunting. They did not try to kill the alligator, so they have nothing to do with poaching or harming the animal, but I hope that my opinion is still respected

Please, Osprey, if it is anything, please do tell. I do not want any hostility between us.

I don’t like the hunting of animals for the sport of fat City types but if you know what goes on in slaughter-houses and you eat meat you have no reason to condemn others for killing animals. Especially crocodilians, funnel-web spiders, sharks and anything with fangs that looks sideways at you

I allow all insects a free passage to the open window bar biting insects who are asking for it. Any animal that penetrates my skin loses the right to free association

Ming

True, Ming.

But I would believe that most people would kill tigers, crocs, gators, sharks and other dangerous animals for valuables and skin, not for meat. (therefore not necessary for human survival)

I know this is very bush-man thinking, but there are many animals human kills not for survival. Animals kill most for food, humans is a sad exception

Ok, I will not continue to talk about this if I just turn this up into an argue. Its funny that this happens wherever I come with a conversation.:stuck_out_tongue:

Animals do not object to their killer removing their skin after they are dead. Only the killing matters, human motives don’t count for anything.

Something kills something, the reason does not matter to the one killed. Chickens and baby lambs are not as complex or as interesting as crocodiles but the life of each is of the same importance. To that animal. Which being dead resets the counter, now we focus on the next living animal, another chicken dies.

One does not have to care deeply about everything in the world that is upsetting. Thousands of people die in a fire, ok. Animals get slaughtered by criminals, ok. The world is but semi-permanent and only Buddhism can save you now. Or Hinduism. The one with karma and the wheel, acceptance

No need to take the pain of the world on one’s shoulders alone, all of us share the pain. And the pleasure of course

This guy goes into a bushmeat restaurant and asks for “A crocodile sandwich please, and make it snappy!”

Ming

Over forty years ago my father had one of those. It was fantastic!
Look here several pictures of one Posillipo-Positano wood runaboat.

There was no offense taken, as I wrote in the the reply to Painter, Alligators and Sharks and any other deadly animal or Reptile are only killed if they attack Humans. But on the negative side these restrictions have had a huge increase of deadly animals here in the U.S. Snakes that have been dropped off in the Everglades have reached mythic proportions because there is no natural Predators.

check this out:eek::

None at all.

Richy and Ming, what else is there to say:)

I fairly interesting story that happened locally:
I retired Navy Seal went swimming in a Lake nearby and a Gator attacked him and took his arm. When they killed the Gator the guy asked for its head so he could stuff it and keep it in his house

Beauty ILpesca, One of the best of the show was an Italian wood boat made by Rega. I would call it the Bently of boats.
