Yeah, poor Rommel. If he just had been with the Allies. A true commander and general complelty neutral to any Nazi influence, he sticked to the military rules and not the rules the Nazis made above them.
Better if he got captured, maybe he would survive then? Many Allied generals would not kill Rommel nor acuse him.
But thats life…
I thought Rommel was killed by the SS when he was unsuccesful at killing Hitler in the Bunker?
About 30 years ago, maybe more, an Italian journalist, named Enzo Biagi (who died in 1977) interviewed Rommel’s son. He told him that two SS oficiers went at their home to pick up his father, and ofefred him an “honourable alternative” to being executed. His son thought Rommel killed himselves. Hitler orered grad state funerals, because he cannot destroy the image of a such a famous general. Many conspioratirs of the Hiltler killing attempt were executed by SS officiers with piano strings…
