Well it's not easy :)

Even with all the engine aids on the Lagg isn’t easy to fly. Remember to change your pitch before trying to take off, fully forward, otherwise you don’t get enough power to take off. Doh…or read the helper

Only had a quick fly about and she feels better than the brick in the Il2 of old, just about, more like a plane that needs to be learnt to fly well.

Feels cold in there

Love the landing bumps, feels and sounds just right.

I think I must have been flying a different sim to you Matt I didn’t have any issues at all once I’d got all the controls setup. Before that, the interface had interpreted my Warthog throttle axis as the rudder and the throttle so I did a few doughnuts on the airfield before I checked the settings. Lol.

Anyone familiar with RoF settings will notice its the same interface, even pilot gestures is in there.

Setting up the controls was easy enough, though for some reason in the graphics settings I can get 1920x1200 res to stick and it reads 1280x960??

I setup the game on normal difficulty settings, which seemed to be the equivalent in RoF to warmed up engine, but I could be wrong as I didn’t have enough time to check this out fully. Take off required a bit of flap and its noisy. The TIR implementation allowed me to get my head out the cockpit and I half expected to feel the prop wash in my hair. :stuck_out_tongue:

Getting airborne I closed the canopy (default right alt C) thankfully to shut the draft and noise out. I flew around for five minutes did a couple of loops and low speed passes, bled speed of and flew a circuit to land. Flaps out, wheels out on the base leg, finals and landed. Turning off the runway, it does feel like driving in snow and I love the way the snow compresses. There’s faint tyre tread in the tracks. With outside views on I swear you can hear the snow squeak when you roll on through it.

The flight model to me felt like it needs some work. Its hard to describe, but feels way too light, almost like I’m flying a Sopwith Camel with a dirty great engine on the front. As soon as I got airborne, it felt really twitchy, like it had no momentum or weight.

Landing it became more noticeable and I gave her a boot full of rudder on touchdown and the Lagg seemed to slide sideways along the runway - again hard to explain.

It does look promising and I like the impression of distance when you’re airborne. It does feel like a winters day and you’re spot on there Swoop, it looks bloody freezing.

Yes, double check if your control-axis are inverted. Had to invert the mixture to get the engine running
Also the radiator, LOL

Nice Keets and Paf.

My meaning of it’s not easy was to say it’s not just “IL2 flying on rails kinda of thing”, which some had said it might be, it’s tougher which is good

I flew on Custom settings which didn’t set the prop pitch so never got above 140 kmh even while dodging trees, houses etc on the ground…lol Just a few miles overrun doing an early wrights brother impression. After my 5 proper smash, one involving hitting a vehicle I decided to the unmanly thing and read the manual (a bit). Still need to sort my wheel breaks as the toe breaks aren’t working here.

Selected 1920 by 1080 and working here…ATI thing maybe?

Hope to get sometime later today to fly…

I’ve just installed it. Got into the cockpit, looked left and right, cockpit frame was tearing.Exit game.

Tick Vsync on under graphics Charlie, sorts that right away.

All part of the enjoyment of getting early pre-beta access to a game.

Could be an ATI thing Swoop, thanks. I’ll give it another go tonight, I need to read their forums to see if there is anything relevant.

Thanks for the help Keets

I’ve managed to fast taxi at 145 kmh. before ploughing into a wooden hut (funny when the Lagg bounced backwards before bursting into flames)

Engine starts, throttle works, rudder works but elevator and aileron do not work no matter how many times I assign them in game.

Hi Charlie

Engine starts, throttle works, rudder works but elevator and aileron do not work no matter how many times I assign them in game.

Had the same thing but it helped for me to remove the secondairy and third options for that control.
remind trim isn’t working yet

Thank you Pax. I will try doing that tomorrow

EDIT: Many many thanks Pax, I just done what you suggested and it worked

“For that grainy/vaseline effect, that is from SSAO. SSAO applies a shadow map, which is giving the grainy effect. To get rid of it, go to startup.cfg in your data folder and locate the two lines that begin with ssao. Set them both =0.”

Just a small graphics tip.

Charlie, I had the same problem with speed, and found changing your prop pitch to full and you will go much faster.

Thanks Swoop, I was wondering why I had that awful grainy look.

Got some stick time in the F4 and the LaGG last night.

Seriously impressed by what is in it so far. Roar of engine up front really makes you know you are flying a barely controllable, powerful, high-speed monoplane fighter.

No problems taking the 109 off - but the LaGG nearly planted itself in the snow after rolling left.

Lovely touches - exhaust flames, lights of truck convoys at night, the reflection/shine on the fuselage, ground handling. Banging sound as the U/C comes down startled me first time.

FM feels good as well - aircraft have nice sense of inertia and heaviness. Much to like from this so far.

So far two thumbs up - marrying graphical splendour of War Thunder with realism/FMs of Il-2/RoF…
