I tried the beta a long time ago but could not get track ir or my HOTAS to work, are such devices supported now?

Yes Classic,
Trackir and my G940 love War Thunder as does my dual core pc… Oh and me.

EAF19_BAZ

it’s a really good game!!! we are enthusiastic about that… we made very good missions yesterday morning! COME ON COME ON!!! come playing with us!

Well I know “everyone” yesterday afternoon, had a ton of fun playing as well…

That’s because IT WAS ONLY ME IN THE SINGULAR ON ME TOD!!!:frowning:

Actually it was still good fun.

If you haven’t got it, why not get it?

Got it, tried it and can’t be arsed with all the levelling up shit that infects online games nowadays…plus having to train crew…having to pay to get yer aircfraft fixed…all to get money.

Why can’t I just get the game, buy a spitfire mark one with RAF markings and fly the fucker online…nope can’t do it till your allowed to fly that ‘level’ of aircraft

Hi Puff
I found that I accrued XP and Lions/Eagles (in game currency) very quickly which enabled me to accelerate my levelling (by spending Lions) so that within a few hours I had the Mark II Hurricane with various upgrades and soon after the MK1 Spit.

After a few more hours, I now have the Macchi 202, the Beaufighter VIC (again with various mods) and probably ten or more other aircraft I wont find time to fly.

I like the levelling system, because it limits your progress toward higher levels and those legendary aircraft that everyone uses online to dominate a battle.

I have yet to encounter a Focke Wulf, and because the online matches have no respawns (unless you purchase them) the fighting seems more considered.

Sure, getting used to the in game “system” can be a bit frustrating to begin with, but in my case with EAF51_Storm’s help, I soon had a clear understanding.

EAF19_Baz

Why cant I just be able to buy an aircraft and then fly the one Ive just bought online…thats what I can’t get my head around…I don’t have time to play around offline/online to build up my aircraft level etc…I will say , it does look ok and uses CEM’s, albeit, a very basic level of it…but its just a pain in the hoop having to go to those lengths just to fly the aircraft I want. ie I have the typhoon 1b available as a gift, but cant fly the bloody thing online lol.

Can I buy level ups with the in game currency?

RE: Purchasing level ups (in game currency)

Sure, if you have enough Eagles.

Go to the Store/Shopping Cart Icon (top right), and click on the bottom option Convert XP, then you click on the white graduated scale icon to the level you want/can afford and click apply.

If you’re level 3 say, and want to be level 6 to fly the Spitfire MK2, you level up (with your Eagles), then with your Lions you purchase all the fighter aircraft (don’t put them into service) in the Spitfire column, from the one you currently own up to and including the Spitfire Mk2. Voila!

Complex engine Management.
In the Hurricane, you have pitch, mixture, radiator, supercharger controls… (all very similar IL2 1946) What other controls would you like to see Puff?

I agree I also feel they may or may not actually be doing much, but the game is still in development, and being a former advocate of Wings of Prey, I know this is something the developers are keen to improve.

MMO not a sim. Not for me.

Loads of us were in on the beta, there’s a thread about it in the briefing room and in the other flight sims forum.

The “+50XP” stuff is a real turn off. Historical FRB’s are not, v small combat area, its air quake heaven. But as I’ve already said its an MMO not a flight sim, if you like it more power to your elbow.

Without wishing to start a war of words, I think its a bit unfair to say its not a flight simulator.

It may not be a particularly good one (in your opinion Keets), and it may have elements that are new/unusual for what we might consider a flight simulator to have (which I am undecided about also), but it certainly gives the impression of flight/piloting (in a similar way to IL2 1946, CLOD and ROF) and thousands of people are enjoying what it has to offer.

In my opinion it is both a flight simulator and an MMO (although I have no experience of any other MMOs, so I could be wrong), but more importantly it is fun and engaging.

Sure the maps are smaller than some of the other flight simulators we know so well, but there are many other elements that can be compared and contrasted.

Whilst the game does have the facility to create Squadrons, I have yet to experience/see this. I would like to experience some SEOW like organised game play (similar to the Youtube video I linked to) to see how much it could offer.

I’ve eulogised enough about War Thunder (and I’m not even being paid for it):).

If you have tried it recently and thought nah!, then…
If you haven’t tried it and thought nah!, then…
If you haven’t tried it and haven’t thought nah!..

Without wishing to start a war of words…

You are Ming and I claim my £5. :stuck_out_tongue:

No war from me Baz, just my opinions and facts.

You asked we come and join you in the goodness of WT when quite a few have been there and got the t-shirt. So I responded with my thoughts and said if you like it, great, but it isn’t for me. Nothing more.

I would like to experience some SEOW like organised game play (similar to the Youtube video I linked to) to see how much it could offer.

Good luck with that.

Longer explanation of why this wont happen…

SEOW or the web engine part is a GUI front end to a mission builder for IL2. It also integrates with a database in the back end which maintains the battlefield units and their status which gives the simulation of a perpetual environment/war.

SEOW makes use of the following:
Static structured in game mission files that can be auto generated and sent out to people who join the mission
Ground units that can be programmed to go to a location x on a map from a previous location
Same for AI air units
A report from the game engine after the mission is closed of what has taken place and where for all units, regardless of status
it uses the same plane set for everybody (regardless of “XP”)

I’ve highlighted the last one as its pretty key for why you won’t experience anything more than a prolonged Call of Duty style deathmatch/capture the flag mission. (Come to think of it, I think ISTR there being a CTF mode in WT)

Dont get me wrong, I like Call of Duty and playing it on the PC and the PS and in our household, thanks to mini Keets obsession with it, we have most versions from the original release, but it isn’t a sim. It’s not even loosely a sim and i dont think it is unfair to say otherwise whilst they have level up trees and XP flashups on the screen.

Incidentally, whilst we’re on about SEOW experience, unless 777 change their report logging/stats capture, I’m not banking on an SEOW style campaign for BoS either due to the reporting ability in the engine being used. I’ve written stats parsers and websites for both IL2 and CoD, but I’ve tried to look at RoF and its beyond me.

Crack on though mate and good luck with it. Here’s some XP to keep you going +100XP

It may be ‘sim-lite’ but in FRB I think its still a flightsim - cockpit view, take-off and landings, CEM, flaps radiators.

Test for me is despite small maps, do historical air combat tactics still work?

What I found that in WT the aircraft visibility (no icons) is such that flying high and keeping a high energy state is much more valid tactic, than in Il-2 1946 or CloD where the ‘dot’ issue invariably meant bogeys became invisible once they were 1,000ft+ below you. (Hence the low ‘spotter’ tactics in Il-2 online wars).

(Am aware of course that TF CloD has now added ‘glinting’ of canopies which is huge improvement)

Sure there are the usual yahoos having unhistorical furballs in the ‘weedosphere’ and bringing jets to biplane early war fights, but that also exists in Il-2 (and in certain planes being banned for being overpowered in some RoF servers). Non historical/unrealistic stuff can also happen in DCS servers (P-51s, UH-1Hs and A-10s in the same mission?)

But put two teams of likeminded squads in there in FRB, with a historical planeset and matchup and you have most definitely a flightsim - its just different than what we have been used to.

As with all other sims/games the key is to find a like minded regular group of folk who want to fly with the same spirit.

Flashheart come and join with us!

All it needed was oiled, naked Spartans with Scottish accents

Ive tried it and I like it. Its a bit cheesy with the rewards, but fun at the same time. Flew some basic beginner missions with Baz and he kept me alive.
we flew the I-153 and fought some He-?? biplanes. The ground battle was very nice to see. I hope they can integrate word of tanks or some other ground war sim with this. Would be very cool.
The FM takes some time to figure out. I haven’t done it yet and my controls are over sensitive. But this takes time. Its the same in IL2. We flew a Spit Mk10 on Skies of Valour and I found myself stalling all over the place. Like balancing on a ball.
The best FM sofar in my opinion is Clod. Feels solid on all aircraft.

NOTHING TO SEE HERE. HE’S JUST KIDDING. WE HATE IT. ITS TRULY HORRIBLE…

Ive tried it and I like it.

Ewwwwwwwww!!! Apollo you just typed that !!OUTLOUD!!

Don’t tell me I didn’t warn you…(hides behind sofa)

EAF19_Baz

Solved a little my stick problems…
so will give it a go…

still don’t want to spend much time flying stupid biplanes before getting my hands on something more serius…

planes exploding like the death star after a couple of MG shells is not great either…

You are a better shot than I am Jimmi. Nothing exploded when I fired at it. But I will try some more and see what happens.
