The War Thunder community has a new and interesting biweekly video competition. I decided to give it a try.
Every two weeks a subject is announced by the War Thunder team, for which people can make videos about. Then after each deadline, there is a jury, consisting of WT senior members, that will judge them and award the top three. The vids must be between 1-3 minutes.
I was lucky with the current competition’s choice of subject: portray German medium tanks!
The crew of two Panzer III’s advances right into Hell. Outnumbered and outgunned, they must rely on each other to survive.
What you see is all from a single multiplayer mission. The mission is a random player vs player match in Simulator Battles.
All the tanks in this movie are controlled by human players.
Firestarter, a wingman and friend of mine, drives the grey PzKpfw III and I drive the camouflaged one. The names of the opposition are not known.
Music:
PostHaste Music Library - Exoskeletal (No Choir)
Mark Petrie - Virtus
BTW, 51’s promotional video will also be released within the next days!
Thanks Baz and Jimmi! The video is actually more or less real time of the real event, thus it was extremely exciting and dangerous at the same time! My buddy and I stumbled upon them, waiting for us below the hill, but our quick reaction and crossfire, selecting different tanks almost intuitively, we managed to come out victorious. And alive.
You cannot vote, that’s for some jury. But you can like the video on YouTube itself by clicking the thumbs up. That’s what I meant.
You cannot imagine how it would be difficult staying into these tin cans while running in bumpy landscapes like that…
All those films (game or real) let me remember how it could be hard and dangerous tank’s crews in war times.
Those men were all heroes and the fear I can feel sweating from this clip gives me goosebumps.
I love your works Knut… thank you!
Thanks Walty! I really want to make such a video you mention in the future, depicting not just the stress, but the mental courage and will to go on and on in such a claustrophobic death cage. This one has the stress, but I want to get deeper under the skin of tankers. I need to read some more books of WW2 tank crews to get the right description of them.
No despite I was for my military’s year tank commander I have no recommendations about books.
I can surely help you understanding tank’s crew life and feelings, just in peace time though (but in operative conditions ;)).
Sounds good Walty! I might ask you of a few things sometime.
I didn’t know you were a tank commander. Before, I played together with a mil-sim tank group, Unit 19. The leader was a tank commander for 8 years in the Dutch army. We learnt NATO tactics and comms, and tried to use them in ArmA 2, and I made quite a lot of videos from that time.
But I have very little clue how WW2 tankers operated, tactics wise and comms wise. But I respect them immensely regardless of nationality, knowing how vulnerable they were and how terrible losses all tank regiments had, especially on the Eastern front.
Here’s a video from the times Unit 19 was active.
Walty!
What tank did you command in the military? A good friend of mine commanded the Strv 103 “S” in the swedish army. I was unfortunately only infantry during my military days.
Strv 103, isn’t that the “ambush tank”? Extremely low, no turret, but good old modernized tank destroyer design, with hydraulic control of the tracks to elevate or depress the gun!
Nice Walty! The M60 was quite a success if I’m right, quite spacious inside too. But If I remember also, it had the hydraulic oil tank right infront of the crew, thus if penetrated, there would be lots of hot hydraulic oil flowing around.
