Thursday 13 of January - Training Day

@51Squadron @Trainee

Tonight training evening a little different from the usual ones.
In light of the last mission on SOW and some observations made later we will do specific training for AA combat at Wing level.
Meeting at 9pm in the channel and then we will start immediately with a series of 2vs1 and then results and time permitting 2vs2
The focus will be on the SA of Wing, on the Leader / Wingman comms and on the interaction between the two with the application of basic ACM such as bracket, Sandwich etc. etc.
After this first part, around 10 pm we will go to a PVP server (LFDM / SOW) to go and apply what we tried in training against Axis opponents.
It is very important that you participate in large numbers because we are going to work on one of the aspects that have recently gone less well during the missions done.

Still sick. I suspect Omicron variant, but might be some other type of flu as well, haven’t taken any test yet…

Little debrief of last night’s night from the way I lived it.
I state that LFDM compared to the SOW server, I prefer it because I find it richer in targets, opponents AI generate as you are in the area and never know if the plane is piloted by a human or an AI.
Coming to the mission, due to mistakes due to the hurry, I damaged the cart in takeoff and I left Azeville late with respect to the group, which in the meantime had landed on Saint Pierre du Mont to rejoin the others.
I leave with 10 rockets in the direction of Le Havre to attack the ships at anchor, arrived at Saint Pierr, to join me also Mavi, also shared causes problems.
I see our formations prepared for the attack on the port targeted by the flack, I decide to operate alone and attack the flack positions, so as to allow others an attack without the hassle of anti-aircraft.
I go through several passes and destroy 4 out of 5 positions, the fifth is destroyed by Mavi with an action worthy of the best kamikaze… but now the port is safe and you can bomb without problems
The rest of the group bombard the port with modest results, I see only a ship on fire.
Being that the timetable was late, I head to Saint Pierre alone at low altitude on the sea, without following the others who at high altitude were preparing to engage enemy planes.
I land without damage, I say goodbye and I close.
I find that the evening did not go badly and the tactics of prohibition of flack made by a couple of planes is a good thing, along with a couple of other planes that are hunting escort, fighters/ bombers. The diversification of tasks with dedicated objectives seems to me an excellent solution.

In modern time (and planes) I usually make Wild Weasel/SEAD missions, so Yes Chip, anti AAA/Flak missions are important and in my opinion worth the risk.
But as all others aspect of aerial fighting need specialization (a lot of…) and perfect knowledge of enemy defence weapons & tactics. So a few specialized’s pilots might form a Wild Weasel unit and operate to clean target area for AG units. :+1:

If you wanted to create a Wild Weasel/SEAD unit, I would apply for a transfer!
