I have just read this book. It is a historical account of what happened Nov 1940 - Jan 1941.
The Italian expedition is in many ways a sad and tragic story, to satisfy his ego and pride, Mussolini was sending young pilots in obsolete CR42:s against Spits and Hurricanes.
Bombing missions were planned based on info in a pre-war tourist guide…

The first Italian bomber that was shot down over UK had 4 surviving crew members. As Brittish military searched the plane, they found a large piece of cheese, sausages, fruit and bottles of wine.
That’s why the Italians were called “Chianti Raiders”.

The book is more of a history book than aviation book, but may be interesting to some. As aviation book, I cannot rate it very high, as I prefer books written by pilots who participated in the real action. A story written by a historian lacks the nerve.
