I am looking at 19" screens. The LG brand has both TFT (LG L1980Q) and LCD (LG L1970H). The LCD screen has better contrast, and seems to be brand new on the market. Which one would be best for IL2/PF?
Is there actually LCD monitors (in the old meaning, aka pre-TFT) made these days? I thought all LCD’s nowdays is TFT?
I’d probably go for the one with the better contrast and lower responce time.
There seems to be a bit of confusion here. Both are TFT-technology LCD displays. The 70’s is cheaper, but has higher contrast. The 80’s has gotten good reviews and has some nice gizmo’s, but I doubt it’s worth the extra dough.
Response times, resolution etc. are the same.

CC, I guess I was fooled by the description I got from Netonnet.se.
They have the expensive type in stock right now, I might just go to Boras and get one…
Some help please?
There is an offer at Dell Spain: the widescrenn 20’ 2005FPW 16ms for 450€
Any idea if it is good enough for gaming?
TIA
Take a look at the pics I made here:

Look at the bandit at pics 3 and 5… Will a higher-contrast screen help spotting him? My present screen has 500 in contrast, but the new LG has 1600.l
I went from 1024x768 on a 17" CRT monitor to 1280x1024 on a 19" TFT with 700:1 contrast and found it much, much harder to spot bogeys.

Nepe, I think that is the monitor Wasp have.
If so, I think it works just fine for gaming.
Hans, I had no big problem spotting those planes on the pictures, and I don’t think I would have had if it was in game either and I was looking approx at them, but I do find the spitfire quite hard to spot at those altitude and distance (bit further). Philips 22" CRT @ 1280x960.
Not sure how much, or if at all, a higher contrast would help. I need to look at the pictures at work as well (17" TFT there).
Thx Mikke
But just found a new one: Acer 19" widescreen 8ms for 279€…nothing else right now can beat that price.
EAF19 Majik, uses that very monitor. He seems pleased with it.

@Slush
Did you try lowering the resolution on your new monitor? You could try 1162 as well as 1024.
I used 1280 on mine for a long time, and dots were easily spotted. Now I am running IL2 on 1162 as I think this is the setting that works best for me when spotting against the ground.
@all
My present monitor has 500:1 in contrast. I was wondering what a switch to 700:1 or even 1600:1 would mean. I need some help deciding which one of these two monitors to buy:
LG L1970H
Kontrast: 1600:1
Ljusstyrka cd/m2: 300 cd/m2
Responstid ms: 8
Pris: 3590 Skr
or
LG L1980Q
Kontrast: 500:1
Ljusstyrka cd/m2: 250 cd/m2
Responstid ms: 8
Pris: 4490 Skr
(Ljusstyrka means strength of the light)
The thing is that TFT monitors have a native solution - in my case 1280x1024. If I go below this, objects can be “cut off”. The whole appearance will become jagged, and while it might be easier to spot movement, it will also look quite awful. TFT monitors are a mixed blessing, but a blessing nonetheless.
As for which of those two monitors is best, I’m a bit sceptical towards the 1600:1 contrast. But if it’s true, the specs of the cheaper monitor do look better, though it’s older, so I’d go with that one.
