TB-3 Bombing

With the new Crimea map coming up will any body be able to make up a TB-3 tutorial for bombing, as i and maybe a few other bomber pilots have never used the bombsight and need some training in this field.

the TB3 bombsight is very simple, really.

All you need to do is adjust it to height and speed, adn the crosshair marks where you’ll hit, the same with the Pe2 sight. They are not advanced like the He111 or B-25 bombsights.

from past experience i find i always have to drop a little early when using the cross hair on the bombsight. Will sort some screenies later

The good thing about the TB3 is the fact that it can carry 4 x FAB1000 bombs so accuracy is not so important when dropping eggs that size, just within a couple of hundred meters will flatten soft skin vehicles.

Don’t forget to leave all your personal effects in the office if you’re volunteering to fly the TB-3 along with your last will and testament “They forced me into what looks like a flying barn”

That one sounds fun is it the one that lifts off at 70mph whoah check the size of that wing I hope it’s armoured <gulp>

Wonder how it did in action? Can’t fly it low with that huge footprint attracting ground fire… doesn’t look to have the power to fly high.

IIRC the TB3 will fly at 40mph

Max cruise i could get out of it was 190KPH i would say the best alt to be at will be between 1000-2000m, as you said down low its huge and every jerry east of berlin will be shooting at it, but it takes too long to get high above the defensive AAA so we have very limited options. Either get really low and avoid AAA by being below the LOS/LOF or get up to 2000m and try as best we can to dodge through the AAA, whichever we option we take i sense a lot of fun times ahead in the TB3

did i mention the HUGE bombload? kind of makes up for its slow flying ability, its most useful looking loads look to either the 8xFAB500 or the 4xFAB1000

Way before we get to a bombing tutorial, can we get a take-off tutorial?!

Start all engines (make sure you have them all selected):

Hit the breaks and give full throttle. Keep the breaks applied untill the engines gain full thrust (they are very slow), then release breaks and pray.

Brakes? what brakes? never been any brakes on my TB3’s :).

Oh and i can never start more than one engine at a time? so if like me you must start the engines one at a time, start with the inboard engines, if you start an outboard engine first you will very quickly find yourself facing the wrong way

I’ll kill myself now to save time

“Enough with these negative vibes man” (Oddball, Kellys heroes)
I have faith in Swoop and his merry men:rofl: , and if the worst comes to the worst atleast we got extinguishers in this plane, and parachutes:D

Lovely piece of kit… Its not really as big as you think.

Christ that good flying:eek:

Rear gunner got the water skies out:D

Another benefit of the TB3 is its ability to absorb damage, a single 109 F2 for example will really struggle to down a TB3 unless he aims for the pilot, but then the rear gunners can be a bit distracting when aiming for the pilot.

Try this for some fun, load up the QMB, put yourself in a TB3 and only have the 1 TB3 in the mission, then load up 4 x 109F2’s and see how it goes, for fun i put the level stabiliser on and jump around the gunners seats blasting away, so far i am undefeated by 4 F2’s, its a bit harder vs the F4 as the nose cannon is far more potent in the F4, but even if you do get taken down you can effectively remove at least 2-4 109s by hitting their engines with from the gunners positions.

On the level bombing front i have found that between 1250 and 2000m the bombsight is very accurate, at 1250m altitude i can bomb individual trees  and the closer to 2000 you get you have to adjust the bomb drop point ahead of the cross hair.

Oh and my TB3’s still have no brakes and no simultaneous engine starts  The best method to start her up without departing the runway in an embarrasing manner is to bind keys 1-4 to ‘toggle selection engine 1’, ‘toggle selection engine 2’, etc, etc Then when the game starts press 1,2,3 and 4 and that will un-select all engines then you must press ‘3’ to select the stbd inner engine and press ‘i’ (engine start) quickly press ‘3’ again to deselect engine 3 and now press ‘2’ to select engine 2, quickly press ‘i’ and that engine will start the objective here is to be quick through the selection process to make sure you get thrust developed on both sides ASAP, then repeat the procedure for engine 4 + 1. You are then ready to takeoff, the engines take a long time to power up and forwards momentum takes even longer  but when its rolling it will lift off at 80mph even with a full bombload

Personally i cant wait to try one of these in a war mission

LOL Keets, I spent hours trying to do that inverted, just couldn’t get the TB3 to stay level for long enough, the HE111 on the other hand…

The only issue I really have with the TB3 is the flight times, they can be killer long :frowning:

Dano.

The flight times can be a bit long, but im sure hardy bomber pilots wont mind. , or were u just saying coz u will have to escort:D

your flight time will be just as long in an I-16
