Star Citizen

Vanguard Heavy fighter / Fighter-Bomber / Attacker on sale. Expires Monday 7th. Includes LTI.

In other news…

Here is my frst ever flight in Star Citizen…together with Michi.

My first ever flight in Star Citizen. Together with my friend Michi, our experiences combined gives us the crushing effectiveness of a Bristol Blenheim space fighter. Something you will notice halfway through the video!

I just plugged in the joystick and hoped for the best. No buttons working, no idea of any controls, no of anything. Only track IR was comfortably routine.

Together we take on the wrath of battle-hardened and unforgiving rouge pilots. With terrifying results to both friend and foe.

Our careful analysis after the battle decided the immensely powerful and Michi-operated hard hitting turret, would have been more effective as storage for two cramped life pods lacking oxygen. We did not know who to blame when our two seats disintegrated into vacuum, as we spoke of our brilliant effectiveness as a highly capable target tug without a target to tug.

For that price I would want a fucking gold plated, real life fucking spaceship…jeez, what happened to games being affordable…money grabbing greedy cunts!!

Remember you can get all these ships in game with credits. I’ve got a couple of basic ones to give me access and the different hangers. However if we form up into a group at some point, I’ll sell the lot and buy a exploration connie.

Yes, if people want to invest into a ship now, it is mostly just to donate and keep crowdfunding the project. The reward is you are able to start as an organized group immediately after launch of the persistent universe, economy and supply system. So buying ship’s beforehand is mostly for team or group players.

Here are the cheapest start packs that gives you access to the game when released.
The second cheapest gives you beta access: Aurora ES.

Remember to select the country you live in, for correct taxes or no taxes at all.

I want to foucs on the escort and support roles of a group, to make sure their income runs safe or to assist in defeating crime, slavery and other evil stuff on the way. Helping a group of people I already know is my main priority, so that would be EAF, SoW players and friends of my own. My idea is to help them gather enough ingame currency to buy whatever they need. That is at leas my motivation to buy a ship before release.

At persistent universe launch, sometime in late beta I guess, the economy and supply system will be implemented. When that happens, we already have a base ship to start straight off the bat to join as an organized group. I hope we can thus get together and be a group with others from SoW and my friends. If the economy allows it, we can share our income commonly to help each other get their ship of preference.

Here is an example of my plan for this group, after talking to each of them:

Swoop - Connie exploration, trade, mining income. So if I understand you correctly, you want to focus on exploration and high valuable trade or resource mining, mixed in between fights to defend yourselves from attacks with your snub fighter in the Connie? The Connie has very powerful defensive turrets and will be a great defensive asset. I recommend you to buy a Gladius in-game, if you want a dedicated manoeuvrability fighter in addition. It is also the first English designed ship, if you want some Spitfire inspirations.

Sassem are in the same boat as you with a Connie, and teaming up with him would already make us powerful to defend ourselves and gather a high income. He also has combat ships that can defend us.

Phill from SoW has a Freelancer multi-role ship such as the Connie, but smaller. It can do everything the Connie does, except holding a snub fighter or a exploration vehicle. He wants to explore and discover the game’s many features and doing it in numbers would be safer.

Dixon from SoW plans getting a Carrack exploration ship, basically a dedicated explorer ship, while the Connie is much more jack-of-all trades. He also has the Merlin snub fighter, Gladius fighter and Gladiator bomber / attacker. He is very capable of defending us if needs be.

Retnek from SoW wants to join in as a advanced operator of electronics, intelligence, monitoring and weapon management / RIO. He is interested in the teamwork between crewmembers of the same ship. He says he is interested in joining our group as a crewmember. This is also what I want to do if not flying directly.

My friends Michi and Chakal both have combat ships and both are willing to join our group activities. They are willing to be crew operators / RIOs as well. Chakal also has trade ships.

I also know a few other friends from the ARMA series who might be interested in joining our group activities. They have huge firepower too. A few Retaliator bombers would be a nice defence.

Finally I want to help out our group as much as possible, mainly by defending, escort, scouting, screening and basically clearing out an area ahead of our fleet to ensure safe travels. But also by gathering income and sharing it amongst the group, to help our members get the ship they want. I bought the Vanguard because its concept fills everything I first wanted with Star Citizen: it was inspired by WW2 heavy fighters such as the Mosquito and P-38. It is a multi-role platform and very flexible; it has a second crew member with a turret, which anyone of us can operate as an RIO and do all the intelligent tasks while I simply focus on flying and staying alive. I can be offensive and attack enemy strong points on the ground / planets, defend our group with electronics, stealth and misguidance, diversion and other tricksting. Finally when it comes down to it, I can give heavy direct fire support to fend off attacks, while taking a huge beating myself. It has all the weapons of a Beaufighter; heavy guns, rockets, torpedoes and eventually bombs. But just like all the other combat members of our group, we have many options how to help.

When the game’s persistent universe with the first star systems is finally released, we can start making a proper plan. But I thought it would be good to have a vision or goal of what we want to do together. Then we will adapt to the realities of the game, step by step as the game develops.

I hope more people from EAF are interested in joining us. You don’t need to buy anything above 30 euros for the starter pack with a ship and beta access. The rest of our group can help you gather the income and in-game currency to get the ship you want.

I see why you got her, tough beast and if it was available now to try, I’d likely sell my other ships and get one myself, maybe another version to complement your bomber. Would cause some serious havoc and drag forces away from another area. Reading up on the Carrack, I really like this as a more military command and control ship with a small force. We do need something to make money with though.

yeah, errr, I mean…I dont understand a word you are talking about, but I know I have an Aurora somewhere. And I know my role in the universe: to escort the Javelin-class Destroyer “Italo Sapienza”

Nepe got a great point. Mcorion has in honour of his late friend Italo, named his destroyer after him.

We must team up with him!

When there is another Vanguard sale, you should buy just the battlefield upgrade kits. They contain all the modules and pod different to each ship variant. Then you have the choice to buy the Vanguard itself in the game credits or with real money. As long as you have the Battlefield upgrade kits (BUKs), you can swap between fighter / electronics / bomber roles at will.

If you want all three variants but the most heavily armoured hull, the “cheapest” way to buy them with money was to buy the Harbinger (heavy armour) and the two battlefield upgrade kits (BUKs) for Warden (heavy fighter) and Sentinel (E-WAR). This was the path I did.

Once the Vanguard is flyable, we all should crew together and I will let anyone fly her, so you get a feeling if you really want it either by money or in-game credits.

Personally I would recommend anyone who wants a Vanguard, to get the Harbinger, credits or money, but make sure to buy the BUK kit at least for Sentinel and optionally Warden. These BUKs will not be available after game launch. Remember to buy them when Vanguard goes on sale again. Then you can buy the Vanguard Harbinger with credits and still get E-WAR stuff thanks to the BUK, plus the benefit of added armour.

Well, its much more than that. Italo was a EAF51 member, C/O of OTU and a great friend for many of us.

*original post on SOW forums.

Let’s plan a tentative vision of how to play together in Star Citizen.

McOrion, I would like to hear what your plans are for Star Citizen and how we can help you.

I was thinking how us EAF players would form up as team players and how we could assist each others, either as multiple ships or part of the same crew. I would appreciate if people would write down their main roles they wish to do. I also suggest we write down the ships we have pledged, so we know whose players can work well together on the same ship and whose can team up as wingmen etc. I know it is still early days, but this thread could guide more EAF players to pick a ship and role suited to their intentions.

So which ships do you have and what intentions do you have for them?

My visions are:

1st priority: military air/space support missions, intruder and strike missions - Vanguard Harbinger for land based operations, Gladiator for carrier based.

2nd priority: planetary exploration - Aurora LX, need advice to upgrade to a better ship!

3rd priority: dogfighting and escort - no ship yet, need advice!

4th priority: recreational fun, top priority delivery missions, speed: 350r

I need some advice please.

Straight off the bat, I want to do exploration as my main activity, until we get organized enough to do any military operations (McOrion and Destroyer “Italo Sapienza”, SOW players, Squadron19, UEE Reserves etc).

So, what ship to use for planetary exploration? Is Constellation Aquila too much? Is Freelancer DUR too little? Should we wait for new concept ships?

I would very much prefer a team effort in the exploration role, one of us has an exploration ship and others can join as crew or assisting ships. I really want to do these explorations together with other players. Thus I am interested in a multi-crewed explorer such as Aquila and Freelancer DUR.

And finally, what dogfighter? I want to assist and join others in EAF and SOW as a wing, so we likely should have the same ship. What about the Gladius?

I hope people are interested in noting down their intended roles and ships they already have or on their wishlist.

Thank you for any help!

Hi…

I should have seen this earlier instead of posting in SoW.

I really fancy getting into SC, so any advice will be appreciated!

When do you guys ‘fly’ in it?
