Sandy Johnston speaks about 602 and 603

The friendly rivalry that exists in Scotland between Edinburgh on the East Coast and Glasgow on the West Coast is the same today as it ever was.

An example is the never ending argument between 602 and 603 squadron about who shot down the first German bomber over Britain.

The RAF history page just says ‘29 Nov 1939 - After being attacked by Spitfires of Nos. 602 and 603 Sqns over Lothian in Scotland, an He 111 bomber becomes the first German aircraft to be shot down over the UK.’
