Been a long time since I even remembered to pop on here (RL is a biatch, takes you directions you wouldn’t even dream off, but I guess that is normal).
Just wanted to say hi (I guess some of you are still around to remember me, I am now almost as old and as wise as Ming was in past century when we rolled out for the last time together :)). It’s really nice to see this kind of community in this sea of endless internet junk new Facebook generation produces daily.
I roosters are fresh, I can see Swoop is still up and kicking on top of things in squadron. If Peacemaker is also lurking around, tell him I said HI (bugger is not replaying to e-mail last time I tried to make contact).
Salute!
P.S. Looking on forums a bit and EAF website, good times come to mind and TBH, I am even considering purchasing some flight stick as I am typing this so I can take off again (only I think last thing I own is IL 1946, probably not what you play now a days, but that is minor issue, lack of any joystick seems like a bigger obstacle).
IL-2 1946 is still current for some of us, but other Sims have its charm. These days EAF is a multi-Sim Sqd. Rise of Flight (WW1) have drawn a lot of Guys. The are still there are Faithfull fans of Ciffs of Dover, but IL-2 1946 have recieved a lot of official patches and attentions fro the Mod community.
But a stick and a TrackIR should be on your priority list.
Mountain biking was my last passion up until recent, still is but I’ve hurt my knee and might be off for some time so PC gaming is getting it’s appeal once again, sitting in a safe and comfortable chair up in virtual blue in a good company is hard to say no to. Just need to get some tools first :wink2:
Getting some stick to start with will be fairly easy, same with any game. Getting TrackIR will be trickier and will maybe require some help if I am to go forward with the return idea. I’ve checked some sites just now that sell TIR 5 Pro, but none seems to ship to Croatia. Not sure why the hell not since they all ship in Slovenia or any other EU country from what I can see on their webshops.
Can’t get one in Croatia, seems like exotic hardware for our retailers. And buying from US is an option but I will have to pay extra taxes and whatnot. So maybe you can list me few EU stores where you get sim equipment and I will contact them to see about shipment.
I’ll probably need rudder pedals at one point but lets stick to joystick and TIR for now so wife don’t kill me before I even take off once. Heh, considering amount of money spent on MTB gear and bikes last couple of years, maybe it’s not something to joke about out loud :).
Glad to see you back CyClops!
Sure we can help in choosing the new HOTAS… force feedback or not?
And will be glad to help you if you need help for mountain biking informations (it’s my job ;))
Yeah, been too long for sure mate. Lots of stuff happened that simply killed my former lifestyle. All the good stuff really and nothing to complain about (wedding, house, job, kids, etc…).
Just sorted out stick today, went to shop and got the Thrustmaster T.16000M (it was only serious stick I could get right off the shelfs in my hometown, it seems solid and will do until I figure out what do I really want or need).
Now it’s down to finding out where to get TIR and whatever game you guys play the most to start with. If you know of UK or DE shops that sell, please link them here and hopefully some of them will be able to ship it for reasonable price.
Thanks Walty, I am quite sure I did not like feedback sticks back in the day, ordinary ones always had better precision for me (that might have changed over the years tho, i’ll do some research soon ro even try some when I go to capital next time).
But when it comes down to final choice, I’m sure feedback will not really be most important factor in my decision. It’s precision and ergonomics that I aim for in all my peripherals.
As for MTB, only thing I need right now in final decision if I will go under knife to patch my ligaments back or not (probably will go for it since I wish to continue to ride for couple of decades if I can help it). If I heal up properly, we can speak of where are good sigletracks around the world, or maybe you will manage to convince me to swap to 650b (since that is your job :)).
Roger for the stick! If you need advices in the whole EAF there are more experienced pilots than me than can guide you to a right joystick purchase (non feedback).
My own experience is at your disposal.
About MTB… first of all if you’ll decide to go under (gulp :() knife my best GOOD LUCK …for singletracks and/or bike’s wheel sizes you, with the tracks you love to ride and your way of pedaling and riding, are the best answer to that.
Btw I will be glad to talk about you in TS (just ask) and fly soon with you
S!
Sure thing, I’d very much like that, however it’s been way too long since I touched any flight sim. Setting up controls will be a bit of work, then getting muscle memory again to actually use all those buttons. Mmmmm I foresee some ejecting instead of flaps down and similar. I’ll need some hours in plain old dogfight server before I can even think flying missions.
Not to mention all that knowledge and training nearly all gone. Used to know all planes specs, speeds per alt, turn ratios, climb rates and stall limits by heart. We played for 4-5 years and tonight I fire up IL2 and all I can really remember is this awesome menu music
Ah, since we mention bikes, this is the one I like most, I’ve custom built HER from ground up over past two years (recently added Reverb seatpost and XT drivetrain as well, just not on picture).
And yeah, they gone a bit over the top with those prices for BoS didn’t they? Hope new sim DCS:Europe 1944 stir things up a bit because BoS does not look that much better then original IL2 all considering. And I really hate that idiotic editions crap that gives things in game others can’t have. I can understand some media and action figures for people that are into collecting stuff, but getting game content others don’t have if they bought different copy of the game is not right.
I usually don’t support such lame behavior out of principle, but will still buy and play it (and that way support their, IMHO, bad model) if rest of you will play it, since I am not back just because of the game, but more for the good company so I am willing to go against my principles on this one and just get whatever is needed at a given time to stick with the squadron.
You do get some goodies for the cash, such as free planes and early access, but with Cliffs of Dover and TF patches I’ve been flying that more than BoS as I prefer the Spitfire and Hurricane over the Lagg. However BoS is shaping up very nicely and these guys could be the future of the Il2 series if this is successful which I think it will be, just might be a long time before we see England again. They are making it slightly simpler to get more people in but its a massive improvement over Il2 and is a challenge to fly plus I love the sense of speed down low. Native support for the upcoming VR headset Crystal Cove (Oculus Rift) is another big bonus for me as I just have to get one.
This right here is my problem with gaming industry and what turn it took when Blizzard, Activision and EA started to set rules and standards about what is normal.
I am just getting fed up with the fact that is getting near impossible to buy proper full game (any game) and then just buy bigger expansions as they come, something that was perfectly normal only couple of years ago.
And my rage over that is really not coming from the financial side of things, but practical. They can set any price they think it’s worth, and I’ll decide if it’s worth that much to me to buy it. But when we finally do buy it, we should just all have same game content. Except maybe vanity details, I’m fine with that some might want to support developers with more cash for great product and to get vanity content in return like better paint textures or similar. That is only normal and fair starting point for multiplayer.
It simply must not be acceptable to people not to be able to play together because one of then don’t have a plane or a map, while other do because they got Ultimate digital mega edition that includes it as an exclusive content. And yet it has somehow become acceptable.
What is worth remembering is that the gaming industry on PC’s is declining. Consoles is where the big bucks are. Sims (particularly flight sims) are a subset/niche area of that declining market. If the new approach (drip feeding paid content) enables developers to get their products to market quicker, remain supported for years and have a fighting chance of survival, I’m all for it.
I’d sooner that business model, than have full products like T34 vs Tiger launch and immediately become unsupported by the dev team who have cut and run.
BTW the RoF “demo” you have is actually the full game. You only pay small amounts for other planes you want to fly. Even less if you wait for the many holiday sales 777 run or generous squad mates.
I have around 45 euros worth of planes, I don’t have the new channel map, or any of the big bombers, but I don’t fly them. I can still join all missions that have planes that I don’t have the flying option for and fly with my squadron.
It’s not for everybody, but I feel 45 euros for the amount of planes that I have as well as the enjoyment/entertainment I get out of the game, is a fair price to pay for that sim.
If you compare that with Il2, we were forced to buy each and every paid upgrade to remain current in HL. We easily spent way more than 45 euros doing this.
Thx mate, however you missed my point, what I am pissed off with has nothing to do with my finances, but has to do with enjoyment and quality of the end product.
Let me explain on an example that is not flight sim.
EA comes with their own crap ideas that in turn makes many of my friends not be able to play with me because they maybe got enough for base game, but not for maps, DLC and what not later on. This brings me to the point where I am buying PC and games for my younger brother (got to support students, others supported me back in the day as well :)). But I can’t buy premium account to all my buddies that have BF4, even if I could it would be idiotic to do so. Most of them are not able or maybe willing to pay double to get all DLC at such high price (they each got their reasons that don’t matter for this argument). End result is that I got 110€ (220€ actually because I bought same for brother) game but if I want to play with all my other friends I have to play only vanilla game (1/5 of maps and total content) or play the whole deal just two of us. This leads to dispersion of community and that means less fun for everyone.
Proper way would be to charge the whole base game for what it is, and then ask us that are willing and able to support making of an expansion for then game trough kickstarter or simple preorder that will be again sold later to everyone for reasonable price (because we fans with money already supported development) in full content. Think Star Citizen or a Witcher3 as a model of this…
Hope that you can see the issue from upper example and how it can’t be good for any community, let alone smaller one that needs critical mass on same place even more. I preferred the days when buying a game meant we all are equal no matter how fat our wallet is, let the better man win as opposed to this where half people can’t play some coop since missing a map/any resource, and some have advantage since they bought some extra pack giving them items that affect game play (gives either advantage in game mechanics like RoF, or in advancing like in WoT, but both are FREE - yeah right, we used to call it Demo and it used to come on CD/DVD with IT magazines :)).
At the end of the day I will personally play whatever game we will all play in the future, just hope 777 will be more exception then a rule for new sim makers out there or sooner then later we will be buying parts to assemble a plane, if we don’t pay for components, we can always mine ore in 3D VR to craft it ourselves, but it will only take six months in their mining module client that is - yes you guessed it - totally FREE
