His Majestys Goverment express its gratitude and thanks for the pilots of the EAF and our commonwealth allies, who stood defiantly in the path of the German war machine who were bent on the capture or at least the destruction of Crete. Through bitter combats on the ground, at sea and crucially in the air the allied forces repulsed the invaders inflicting very heavy casualties at every stage of the campaign. Ultimately the enemy were thrown back into the sea leaving behind countless paratroopers and a number of high ranking officers who now reside in PoW camps in Canada.
In recognition of your duty and service His Majestys Government have created a campaign medal, awarded with or without bar depdendant on time served in theatre.
