This is a commission for a chap near me. After some debating he chose a spitfire of 602 Sqn, a bit of guidance from myself and we decided on the 18th of Aug 1940. The hardest day saw action along the south coast and at 1430 602 were scrambled to patrol above Westhampnett at Angels 2. II and III gruppe of Stg 77 attacked Ford airbase and Poling RDF station. As the Ju87’s pulled out they were sighted by 602 and bounced. Sgt Basil Whall , flying LO-G L1019, struck at a Ju87 as it pulled out and it force landed behind Poling Golf Club, he then latched onto III Gruppe of Ju87’s as the made out over the channel. Closing to 50yds he hammered at one and it started to dive towards the sea, its wing tanks ruptured and it hit the water off the coast at Littlehampton. Whall was hit by return fire and crash landed in the sea /beach at Bognor Regis, LO-G was a write off!
The drawing shows LO-G just after the attack on the second Ju87, his aircraft has taken return fire and is smoking from the engine area.
The usual 2B/ 4B pencil on 300gsm smooth card, this is the first set out of the composition but it won’t change much due to the client liking the way the drawing is proceeding.
As usual all comments gratefully accepted!
Not much to say. The whole penciled composition looks good to me. Were it I, I`d start filling it in, but far be it for me to tell you how to do your own work.
Jeez, another project!
Looks very promising! I will look very forward to see it when finished!
Keep up the good work!
