Could your guys please post your pc specs?
This would help the rest of us undestand which kind of hardware have sufficiant power to run COD at accepteble settings.

Did some testting with the update with Aero enabled, at the stutter had almost gone. Game playable in the small maps but I still have an average framerate under 25 FPS over sea. Flying over over land are worse but I can land. Gunnery are still a beast due to the fps.

On the big channel map, flying are no fun due to fps.

COD are not yet ready to replace IL-2 1946

Win7 64
Core2 E8400(2x3GHz), 8GB RAM, GTX260(896MB) Drv270Beta, X25-M SSD

When I start I first get a “connecting to Steam account” thingy, then I get a simple aiming cross over aircraft for a while, then I get a animated splash screen with Ubisoft (don’t I already hate them enough?), then I get a epilepcy warning, followed by more text on the same background, and then finally I get into the game. Yes, it annoys me, I’d rather look at a black loading screen until I get into the game.
Takes 30 sec to get into the game. Starting IL-2 4.10.1 takes less then 7 seconds. And I’m sure at least half the starting time for CoD is wasted on the useless crap that I don’t want to see anyway!

Ok, now I’ll stop whining for a while and actually try to fly it instead!

I am running:

Intel Q6600 clocked to 3ghz, 4GB of Corsair RAM, ATI HD4870 X2 (single card, dual on board GPUs).

How do I show fps info?

Will try switching off the aero and desktop composition thingy a bit later on and see how I get on.

Mikke: lol, you need to reserve some of that annoyance for when you actually try to play the game

Same as il2:

Get into the console window and type

fps START SHOW

But if you’re over London you can save time by just counting the individual frames.

Insight, you need to be able to open the, hmm, Shift-Tab thingy in IL-2, you need to set a button combination for it in CoD. I set it to the same as IL-2, but that also opens a Steam thingy. Then just “fps START SHOW” as usual. (Edit: Keets beat me to it, I was thinking over things instead of finish answering. :p)

I did a quich mission in a Spit II over the sea. Max fps 30, min 11 I think it said, average 19-20. Sea looks good even though I turned down most of my settings to low. Didn’t notice any stutters, and I got less of the cartoonish feeling in this one for some reason.

Win7-64
Hardware: i7-860 oc’d to just under 3,8 GHz, 5870 1GB, 8GB RAM, 160GB X25-M

You’re both assuming I could remember how it was done in IL2

Will have a tinker with settings later on and see how I get on.

Keets: I haven’t even bothered with the London bits

My game runs usually at 39-40 fps. 1920x1080, FSAA 8x. Nu stutters at all.
In video settings I have only airplane and damage set highest, everything else low as the ground looks good enough anyway.

Sandy Bridge 2600k, 16GB RAM, GTX580

PS I can run it on my 13" laptop at 19-20fps with the same settings.

Is that over anywhere?

16gb of ram :o

Yes, also London sightseeing as well as bomber intercept over London.
My RAM is overkill, but it was very cheap and I filled all 4 slots… 4x4 :o

When flying one of the above quick missions ~3.8GB is used.

@ Keets: London sightseeing is average 40 fps while flying over and 20 fps while flying through the pylons off tower brigde just above road level:)…not stellar, but playable…maybe, as Hans pointed out, it depends much on ram… I got 8 GB…

Well, no idea what my fps are but I seem to have it performing well enough to play.

Just survived the 3rd mission of the typically bad single player campaign

Radio commands don’t seem to work (no response when asking for vectors etc). Perhaps I haven’t switched the thing on properly? lol

The flying is convincing, the turbulence you get when immediately behind an aircraft is excellent. Shooting stuff down is tricky although I seem to be getting some victories.

A bit disconcerting after filling my windscreen with the backside of my enemy and firing into it only for one of them to leap out at me! Missed him fortunately!

Quite good fun, still wish the start up was more involved :frowning:

A mod is out. It seeems to work pretty good for someone:

http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=21048

And so the modding hell begins.

Yes, I appreciate that someone is trying to fix the problems, but I’m starting to have a sinking feeling that CoD might end up even more fragmented then IL-2 is currently. :frowning:

Maybe it’s only the weather here, totally grey, raining, and temps just above 5C.

Tested.

A whole new game.

And I only have a 512 MB HD4850.

Before the mod, fps stuttered from 10 to 50 fps in a few secs, constantly. No more. Finally I can take off and land without problems.

Looks like theres some problem with loading of mipmaps, Im sure devs will take note and fix it with the next official patch.

I’m with Mikke

Although I was an early adopter of the IL2 modding scene and at first embraced it, even contributing some stuff. In hindsight though, I don’t think modding IL2 did anything but fragment the community. I think the use/non use of mods here caused issues too.

I dont want to mod CoD, I just want to play it. 1c need to tone down the terrain colours and fix the stuttering issue. They need to squash all the little bugs too. Not let users hack it.

CoD .sfs cracked…hmmmm

I’m not happy about that.

I just saw a post an SimHQ which suggested for ATI uses to turn off AA in game and use the Catalyst Control Centre to add the AA. I’ve just tried it and it has made a difference to my frame rates.

Something which backs up the mipmap texture files being the cause of the stutters may be that after flying over London for 10 minutes on the sightseeing mission I’ve managed to get similar performance to Thor. Around 30-40fps average down low and the micro pauses almost stop.

After buzzing the landmarks I followed the Thames up from central London to Reading and the frame rates increased to having an average of 50fps.

I know its a combat sim and the terrain is secondary, but they’ve gone to the effort of putting in Buckingham Palace, Houses of Parliament and Nelson’s column, yet they’ve overlooked other more visible landmarks.

Something that strikes you when landing at Heathrow today and approach from the east overflying London is the number of football grounds you can see, yet these are all missing. Similarly both Lord’s and The Oval cricket grounds are easy to spot, being large patches of green.

I’m not expecting FSX type scenery, but at least have a stab at it, otherwise what is the point in having the other landmarks rendered at such accuracy? Windsor Castle is also missing which is a huge landmark visible from the air west of London.

As far as modding CoD, I wont be doing this at all. The developers are on this, so they should be able to easily reproduce the fixes.

Has anyone tried turning AA off in game and using custom settings for Nvidia Cards ?

if so what settings have you used ? and do you apply them to this “launcher” file

my experience would improve if I could get AA to work

my frame rates are ok with a GTX560ti

I said ok not great !

I did before the patch and it had no effect.

I got tired of writing it again and again and found this method:

Go to the following the location:

C:\Users>>Your username<<\Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\

Edit the file “srcu”

Paste the following:

@a aa fps SHOW START

@a ab fps HIDE STOP

aa

I don’t think the greens are bad at all really. Certainly not as offensive as you suggest Brigs  It’s quite green round my way and when you’re flying the colours are pretty vibrant if the sun is out, they could perhaps do with being a bit deeper at times but I suppose the light / darkness of the green would depend a lot on the summer

Mods are basically what killed playing IL2 for me, I couldn’t be bothered with the hassle of trying to keep up with what everyone else was using and every time I tried to install mods I ended up with a corrupt version so I just gave up altogether.

Will try the ATI Catalyst AA instead of in game to see if that helps.
