Today I have been testing my new mission. It got very shaky and laggy near the ground which made t/o & landing almost impossible. I’ve turned off lens & flare and reduced some of the other video & detail settings. I also reduced the number of moving sea and land units - it was very pretty - but slowed down the machine. I now have a lighter version running and am about to make another test.
Hi all,
Finally got the Normandy Map and Assets Pack downloaded. The problems at the ED end are all fixed, so it just showed up as an option in the game yesterday (didn’t get a chance to touch it on Saturday). I spent some time on it yesterday evening and it’s looking fantastic, it runs well in VR and I’m happy with the settings.
I’ve not noticed any change in the Spitfire, I think it flies fine, I flew the F-86 as well, that was good. Took off from Ford and flew to English Point, across the Channel and then down past Le Harve. Was nice to be able to do it at a decent speed!!! Also managed to get the Sabre to get past Mach 1 in a dive from 40,000ft!
You can tell that they are doing the same thing here as they did with the NTTR map. The focus is very much on Normandy, England has repeating textures and no towns or cities - yet. Even around Calais area there is not a lot of detail - in fact there is none. However, if you have had NTTR for a while you will know that they did the same thing there, focus on the major parts in the centre. Make sure it all works and then spread outwards. As far as I can tell nowhere has a concrete runway. We know Ford did and I am certain that Carpiquet did as well. I hope that this will be tweaked later on.
It’s clearly not finished, and I think people should remember that when it comes to expectations. It’ll keep developing and will turn into something great. The detailed bits certainly look stunning - even in VR.

Reducing some of the video effects made a big difference and I can now fly near the ground and other objects in my mission without the screen lagging. With the rear view mirror the screen goes mad, unlike in 1.5 where it works fine for me.
Donwoloaded the 2.1 and the normandy + WWII assets yesterday evening…i’ve tried just running the game, seems like it’s a bit slower while loading offline the mission compared to DCS 1.5, just my impression?
Hi Cappe
This is ‘normal’!
Both Topsy and I experience longer loading times.
My first time at both the game and the Mission editor felt lot longer.
Even though I have an SSD for storage.
But we all have to remember that DCS 2.1 is an OPEN ALPHA, and not a final and optimized product like 1.5
I was a bit confused since i have an I7 with 16GB, SSD storage and a brand new 6GB GTX1060. lets see anyway, i hope to try flying as soon as possible.
I have the same. Loading times are long at the moment. I’m sure it will get better.
Same load times (I7 7700, 16GB, SSD and 1080GTX)and on high settings i get a slight stutter over the trees when looking out to the sides, other than that its very pretty and fast and I prefer flying it in non VR because of it. (BOS is a little “cleaner” imho in VR).
I’m just using the default “VR” Settings from the game, I’m having no issue with it at all. It looks great, but I’ve not tried to crank up the settings at all (I ‘only’ have a 1070GTX ) Unfortunately I am still getting glitches in BoX with VR.
