If you can afford it, go for a good SSD! I love my Intel X25-M 160Gb.
Then buy decent big normal disk for all your junk, only put OS, games and important programs on the SSD.
Your harddrive seems to be quitting. You need to buy another harddrive (I would get an ordinary one for that system) as well as a program like HD-clone http://www.miray.de/products/sat.hdclone.html to transfer the present system. HDclone works fine, I have used it many times.
queer noises
Look at the muck in here
Clicks Of Doom maybe, with Doom impending if not imminent. Man the lifeboats
Backup everything on the drive ASAP if loud metallic click ing! (as opposed to head-access normal clicking) is heard
If the drive sometimes doesn’t show in File Manager and then does, that may also be deadly
If it’s not that loud “I wonder what it is?” metallic (endstop) clicking, perhaps not so deadly

Thanks for the advice guys,
Will look into a new hard drive, maybe not SSD at the moment still to expensive, even though they look good performanc wise.
Maybe Santa will bring me one:rolleyes:
Will price standard one for just now.
Hopefully its not time to man the lifeboats yet:eek:
Thanks Stevie
sorry to be late on this one Stevie,
My recomendation, nip round your mates and see if any of them have an old BT Vision box or Sky+ box.
Both are useless bits of tat, but both contain 160GB IDE Hard disks ( usualy Seagate )
Going rate at the boot sales is £5
Sporran
PS: e5400@2.7 gives substatial headroom for overclocking
