New ultra ninja PC - recommendations?

Hello gents…

Been inactive recently due to RL work - but hoping to sort that out. However have squirreled some dosh together and it is now new PC time!

(Obviously Il2:CoD is (ahem) still a WIP at the moment it seems - but Rise of Flight beckons as well as DCS A-10C and Cryris and BF3 and well you get the picture…)

So looking at a newbuild custom kick-ass PC that would future proof me for some time…

Any suggestions on components/suppliers/dealers?

(NB: I realise the self-build would be cheaper - but having someone else configure, tweak, OC and have a guarantee would give me better peace of mind - my brother - who is more skilled than me managed to botch his last self-build with predictable stressful results…!).

So heres my wishlist for essentials…

Sandybridge i7 core?
GT580 1.5GB card
6-8GB RAM

Anyone using a Sandybridge yet? Should I wait? I think a single card should be enought for now - but what I could do is get an SLI MoBoard and than add a second 580 after a few years to boost performance…

So tech gurus - any thoughts on this set-up? Suggestions

PS: The other thing is I’d like to avoid a load of hassle of resinstalling everything over to the new PC bit-by-bit. Are there any proggies that you can say copy all these games/applications over to a new PC and it will effectively set it up on identically to your old PC - with new registry entries created?

Ie the bulging IL-2 directory of skins, Mods, UP2.0, missionsetc…

The complication here is I have an older E drive, a new C drive and an external drive F that I’d like to merge together into one…

I’ve heard that Norton Ghost can do this - is this correct?

Hi flash…Im using the sandybridge i5 2500k, overclocked to 4ghz…and not any issues at all…switched from Nvidia to the ATI 6850 and again Im very happy with it…I get an average of 50fps in RoF with all turned to max.

Mmm 50fps in ROF… Doughnuts…

Ta for the Sandybridge thumbs-up - upgrade heaven here i come!

(PS: anyone else think Sandybridge sounds a bit rude? - bikini bottoms and beachs? :D)

Sounds better than sandy balls mate :stuck_out_tongue:

OK what do tech gurus think on card choice here

Was going to plumb for a GT580 1.5GB card

But then noticed this monster!

GTX590 (basically two GT580s sandwiched together as a sort of SLI single 3Gb card)

So given CoDs steep reqs (London etc) would a 3GB card be worth it?

Or given that it doesn’t support/has difficulty with SLI/Xfire at the moment would this be a waste of money?

(and potentially if it is one card - it would be impossible to turn off one GFX core to disable SLI?).

Guess the question really depends on whether the epilepsy filter set to ‘off’ affects SLI or not.

Anyone with the Russian version noticed any difference with SLI on/off?

Im not really a techy so to Speak Flash but for 'puter components and a fantastic after sales service/tech help I cannot fault this company.

Ive used them many times before a would not hesitate to use them again in the future.

Regards

Charlie.
