I would like to get rid of having multiple installations on my rig
I would like to get rid of having multiple installations on my rig
Learn how to use JSGME then.
…and having no working installation at all when the AWI patches fuck my installation again?!
:fencing:
No thanks! Been there. Done that. Bought the T-shirt twice. :cussing:
But thanks for the advice anyway :ani_beer:
Starfire, I think the problem is your computer/chair interface.
WB.
as a former IT-supporter we usually said “Error 40”, indicating that the error occures 40 cm from the monitor.
The problem is not the JGSME. The problem is the mod patches. If there is more than one way to do it, it will go wrong. If you can insert a stick two ways into a computer and one is the wrong way the percentage for doing it wrong is 100% Thats Murphy for you
Those days have shaped my opinion of human Computer Interface (HCI) a lot. There are a reason why the consoles have been winning a large share of the gamemarked. In some way people playing PC games are an anacronisme.
As IT support, I’m surprised you are having/had so many issues with what is essentially folder management. JSGME is a simple GUI interface to move folders around your installation, nothing more.
Installing any mods into a temporary folder is the key, that way you can see how the mods are built and move them into the JSGME folder accordingly.
Most mods when unpacked take the form of <mod_name>/mods with all the files below.
The problem is the mod patches.
I think its more the understanding (or lack of) of how mods work in IL2.
If you understand that whilst a mod is activated using JSGME, it is only a temporary copy in your IL2/mods folder and that you need to patch the master copy which resides in your JSGME folder you’re sorted.

Things have changed a lot since the Sinclair Spectrum…
Sinclair Spectrum. Ahh, they were the days.
I had an Oric Atmos! In fact, I’ve still got it in it’s original box. It’ll make me rich in about a 1000 years

“Oleg: Yes, it is our general plan. Maybe it will arrive earlier. I can’t say right now the exact date. But by October 2010 (if not before) Storm of War: Battle of Britain should have many thousands of users.”
:anpaper:
So - October 2010 +/- 2 weeks…
Now question - update my home PC this autumn or wait for 2010… :smokin:
Waiting, BOB will be the end of DUKE NUKEM FOREVER :D:D:D
Oleg: I dislike any copy protection, but that’s up to the publisher to decide. In general, it’s a very complex question, and to properly address all the issues I’d probably need at least as much space as the rest of this interview.
Doug: What do you think about having players connect to the Internet 100% of the time as they are playing?
Oleg: I am not a big fan of these things. Many players, especially in less developed parts of the world, still to this day play only single-player and barely use the Internet even if they have Internet access at all."
Oleg has just gone up +1000 for me, even if in the end we have some kind of online activation crap. He understands that not everyone wants to be online 100% and like to be privately offline. Also he`d doing a dynamic campaign-excellent.
I hope it still remains this way by release.
That’s what I’ve been doing since ever…happily.
Unfortunately Oleg will have no choice in the copy protection, it’s the publishers who call the tunes there.
If Oleg finds a western publisher for his product he will give them the package and they will deliver it using their prefered method of distribution/activation.
I read the bit where he said it was up to the publishers to decide. Point is, I like the fact that Oleg doesn
t actually want it done.
October 2010. Can’t say I’m surprised, just a wee bit sad…
…we will have the mods mess for more then a year to come.
…the community as a whole will get bored with IL-2 and a lot of people will move on to other things.
On the bright side, BoB, or should I perhaps say Storm of War series, does sound very promising, and what they talk about in regards to mods/addons does (despite my feelings about mods for IL-2) sound interesting.
Anyway, the timetable sort of puts me off from waiting for BoB before I get a new PC, now it’s only a matter of money (which I sorely lack after paying for the ammo I need, PPC World Cup in Germany this summer!).
ETA: It seems like they take their time to do things right from the start, instead of rushing something half-finished out the door, something I totally support.
…when does RoF come out
I look forward to SoW but I see many enjoyable hours flying in our trusty IL2 until SoW arrives. As long as we have a community willing to work together and people willing to play with modpacks rather than random mods we can still have busy campaigns and a fair degree of compatability.
Il2 war is still a buzzing war to fly in, plenty of missions each night and everyone is running on the UI mod pack without any trouble. Then we have specialised SE campaigns and from what I know that is working so I think theres life left in the old girl yet.
Speaking from the bellum based war side of things the community is still in limbo at the moment as the war of choice, AirForce war was stopped briefly but is now running again but only running 4.08 whereas IL2 war is running the UI mods. AW is the more advanced war but as is clear by the numbers of missions flown people want mods so IL2 war is busy. Once AWIII is launched with a full mod pack I think we will find that we have a very stable and busy war to fly until SoW arrives as virtually all of IL2 wars customers will revert back to AW.
the end of DUKE NUKEM FOREVER
It’s been cancelled good luck Oleg
