i have tried running in higher resolutions, and for best spotting the highest i have found i can get away with is 1280x1024, any higher and the dots are too small and faint to see till they are on top of me, so its a compromise between graphics and playability for me, but of course i can turn up AA and AF to its highest to make up for the lower res, just my 2 penneths worth after hours of testing.

Starfire, all setting are almost the same, except these:

These have been taken from an AirForceWar Forum post, as recommended by a Russian expert of Recon & Bombing Flights…:wink:

There is always the “high view distance” 4.09 dll’s as well …

Work in 4.08 just fine.

BTW: How do I use 4.09 dlls?

Download them from the :banana:icmaddox:banana: site, unzip or unrar the archive, copy the the dll files to the main il2 directory in your machine.

Game will use them from that point onwards.

You may need to add a line to your conf.ini to enable the long range view, the exact details of which escape me at the moment.

Sure someone will be along shortly who does know though :slight_smile:

TT, the settings you posted are the same than Starfire´s…

setting for conf.ini with the 4.09 dlls is

I “think” this enables a longer range on all drawable objects in game.

Not sure about that, Sporran. I think it only draws the terrain at a greater distance, not objects.

If it draws objects, then I’ll certainly be downloading it :smiley:

With the later .dll’s, landgeom=3 will draw the objects at a (reported) 72km rather than the standard games 36km. There is a hit on FPS associated with it also though. Especially on densely populated maps

I tested landgeom=3 on 4.09.

It draws landscape at the increased 72km, but there was no increase at all in the visibility of objects (objects tested were tanks, test runways and flying aircraft)

I tested the new beta dll’s on 4.09.

No increasse in object draw distance.

No change in fps.

A little difference to the waves splasjing on the shore.

All in all a disappointing run of tests :frowning:

Well, should I keep the settings? I hate cleaning up, so thats a NO :wink:

Not tested them that thoroughly, but i noticed a slight iimprovement in ground objects, maybe placebo.
From the blurb that arrived with the new dlls from the developer.

    Now it supports new video cards.
    And turns on Anisotropic filtration for powerful cards.
  • Improved rendering of buildings and other static

    in LandGeom=3 mode (see conf.ini).

What I do know is that terrain viewing distance hasn’t been increased. That can be configured via video settings for af and mipmap quality etc.

BTW If you really want excellent spotting ability, use a small screen res eg: 1024x768 and turn off any AA. You’ll see nice big black pixels from miles off. Under normal eye candy settings AA will make those black pixels a washed out grey that is indistinguishable from the background. I prefer to be bounced while admiring the scenery :wink:

I am in the same boat as you Brigstock. I changed PC just to be able to fly over the costline seeing the waves rushing up on the beach :smiley:

yer thats exactly what i was saying, the compromise between gfx and playability, 1280x1024 gives a good visual feast, with AA and AF turned to high i still spot dots sometimes well before others

Slightly trickier at 1920x1200, but looks nice :slight_smile:
Nobody spots quicker than Peacemaker, who used to play with no AA on, for that reason the Nick “Peepers” nearly stuck :slight_smile:
