Kefalonia - NordRhein Westphalen 1 - Bavaria 0...

I think that also our non-Italian Mates will be able to appreciate tonight via Satellite Broadcast, a remarkable Reportage about newfound Documents regarding the Kefalonia (GR) massacre of 8000 Aqui Division Italians soon after 8th September 1943 Armistice.

In Italy, it will be on the air aroung Midnight, in RAI “Rete 3” Channel, as a Chapter of “La Storia siamo noi” (We are our History) program.

Highlights:
[ul]
[li]The interview with Dortmund Attorney General (NRW rocks!!!), who did not accept this summer’s Munich (Bavaria) Court sentence, which halted Germany’s much appreciated new attitude towards War Crimes, stating that Italian Soldiers who refused surrender to German Troops after the Fall of Fascism, are still to be considered as traitors, as the King’s order to fight Germans hadn’t arrived yet;[/li][li]Interviews with still living Greek witnesses, stating that, after executing 6000 Ities amidst Olive trees, some other 3000 were embarked in 2 ships, self-sunk a few miles offshore;[/li][li]Military Operation chronicle, stating that a few Fighter Planes would have been enough to resist, as Ju87 Stukas’s 12 hours/day pounding had been determinant in annihilating Italian positions - the RAF was much busy in Salerno Landing, at the moment, and Regia Aeronautica…no fuel, no orders, as usual…[/li][li]Interviews with 3 of the 17 (out of 10000!) Italian survivors, including a Captain who survived close shooting in the head during cold-blood execution of his whole Battalion (“I’m not a Hero: I’ve just had a hell of a luck”), and a still living Italian Sergeant saying: “We didn’t care about Politics: we just did not want friendly Greeks to see us surrendering”;[/li][li]Interview with a German Officer, stating that Nazi Propaganda continuously hammered them with the idea of Italian Betrayal, bringing some of them to really hating their former comrades;[/li][li]Remarkable footage of Air & Ground action in Kefalonia;[/li][*]BundesKanzellier & Italian President at the Celebration, a few years ago;[/ul]Even for those who don’t understand Italian language, I think that even just the faces & expression of witnesses are worth watching…
