Just wondering how popular 6DOF is within EAF IL2 flyers.
Find it awkward to fly without it now.
The ability to ‘lean’ arond cockpit frames etc helps add a whole new dimension to flying.
I had been flying with FreeTrack 6DOF but since I have 4.09 I am not using it.
Pure 4.09 now.
But it was realy cool.

You missed the option “have too old TIR for it to work”.

However, i do believe there is a way to enable 6DOF using a combination of freetrack and an early TIR unit.
Or just nick one of the wife’s Wiimotes, get a usb bluetooth dongle, appropriate drivers and a home made trackclip using IR LED’s ( and freetrack again )and you have another solution.

Can’t pick the “not-bothered” option as I am bothered that there might be an unfair advantage to my opponent in a dogfight who has it.
However, I do admit that we have to move on with the times, so in a way it’s my fault for not getting the latest TIR and using the mod.
At first using 6DOF it took alittle to get used to it.
Now, thats what Im really missing in 4.09m final.

After using 6DOF almost exclusively for so long now I really dont like to fly without it, when its not enabled the game almost feel claustraphobic and it is definitely like a regular TIR user suddenly losing his TIR. I must say when I first started using 6DOF it was a nightmare to get along with but soon everything fell into place and now I find I have much greater immersion into the game. The unfair advantage whilst a valid argument doesn’t sway my decision at all because TIR is an advantage over those who dont have TIR and whilst 6DOF adds a new dimension to TIR its not a huge advantage as canopies can be viewed around by maneuvering however TIR is a huge advantage over someone who does not have TIR much like a HOTAS and Pedals setup is an advantage over someone choosing to fly on a keyboard and mouse (I know of at least one madman online who does it that way, and without TIR)
Like it and it increases immersion - but I don’t think there is that much of advantage with it… - you can always dip your wing slightly.
I have three levels of zoom set up on my HOTAS, so 6DOF really replaces that and enables me to more naturally lean forward to get an ID or take the shot…
I’ve found that trying to look round canopy bars or over the side too much is asking for trouble and usually results in it going beserk and having to recentre. I don’t think its the settings as I’ve copied someone elses, but probably my weak CPU…
Whilst I don’t think I could ever return to flying without TrackIR I can (and do) fly without the 6DOF element where necessary.
Personally I don’t think 6DOF offers much of an advantage anyway but some people will squeal at the merest hint of unfairness. Ironic really as you could argue that someone playing with the latest megaflop CPU and gfx card has an advantage over somebody playing on an old abacus driven slugrig.
Life’s not fair, it’s how will deal with it that defines who we are.

I like 6DOF and prefer to fly with it, but am willing to fly without it when requested like in the SE campaigns we fly.
I am not using 6DOF because my TrackIr does nt support it, and I am not willing to buy a new one while mine is still working properly. I have no objections at all for those who are using it.

As a pilot in real life (not military though), I just like the ‘real feel’ of 6DOF. The head movements I make during flying in real life are exactly the same as when flying with 6 DOF… (eg in a tight turn or a loop) So it feels more natural for me, I don’t have to think about it.
So yes, definitely 6DOF, so much more immersion
Dang it, I’ve kept saying I can get by without it, I have something that works and don’t want to spend money (tight Scot).
But you all should work for the sales team. So, can anyone advise where’s the best place to buy one, and what version?
I dont have TrackIR but I cannot chose the “not bothered” option, because I really want a TrackIR with 6DOF, just never had the motivation to get one. :o

Joe you could try RC Simulations but there are a bit expensive.
It’s been a while since I got mine but I think it was from e-dimensional, based in the US but with a UK office IIRC - can’t seem to find them on the web at the moment though, maybe no longer in business. 
You can always go direct from Naturalpoint the £/$ conversion is not to bad at the moment I think.
I’ve tried googling briefly but there doesn’t seem to be much in the UK.
