Had a good laugh and was immediately thinking of Monthy Python while reading this pilot account:
Conversations round a Flying Corps Mess fire are really wonderful. Almost invariably these conversations start by the narration of an incident of the day, which is ‘beaten’ by several others. A pilot will say, ‘Well, “A” rolled at 150 feet today and came out so near the trees he almost brushed them with his undercarriage!’ ‘Why “B” will roll right across an aerodrome at 100 feet!’ another will declare, ‘I´ve seen him roll between two trees and finish lower than the top of them!’ At this, the first narrator becomes annoyed and, with a perfect serious face, tells of “C” who ‘Took off in a roll!!!’ With a series of groans the discussion closes.
