Should axies configuration be done in IL-2 or in Joystick software?
Are one better that the other?
What is best? Pros? Cons?
Long Story:
Due to new VGA and having to reinitalize a clean conf.ini I found out my elevator axis was not equal in all versions (Stock, HSFX, UP) of our beloved sim.
Since I have a Cougar (Evenstrain Mod) and a Warthog (I fly with the latter these days) I have access to some sofisticated programming software.
Software which can modify the behaviour of the axis.
From the old days on the website Cougar World it was recommended to leave IL-2 axis setup untouched and do it all in the joystick software.
What is best? Pros? Cons?
Don’t know about all that programming stuff. But I have mapped all my controllers using the CH mapping software. This apparently makes all my controllers look like “one” in the game. I have JS, throttle quad and pedals.
The fine tuning is done in IL2 itself. In something called INPUT. There are all the axis of Pitch, Roll, Yaw, Power and some other ones also. I used to have these set to 100, but have lowered the a little now and found a setting that I am happy with. When I get new Pots for my JS I can probably set Pitch and roll back to 100 for instantaneous reaction.
This is an old trick. Older games did not accept more than one controller. The Cougar did the same. Throttle and rudder to be connected throught the Joystick to the PC.
These days the Warthog and other stick are all induvidual units connecting to the pc.
I dont doubt your setup but I have a hard time imagine my ability to control such settings. Could you please send me a screenshot of them. I would like to se how I do
In HOTAS CCP I have all axis linear except rudder set at curve -2 (makes it less sensitive near the middle, should make it easier to make small adjustments for shooting etc).
This is what I have…The “rts” file has a lot more that I cut away.
I used to have everything at 100, but have now toned it down a lot.
I still have fast response on the elevator, but Aileron I turned down because of flying the FW190, since it got very twitchy in roll. The rudder settings let me apply more pedal for less response. It feels more realistic that way I think. But never take away the full throw (ie 100) on the rudder since you need it for spin reovery.
I call it old and trusted as its generally what we’ve been using if you’re been involved in Il2 for a long time.
The trick is understanding how the game assigns controls. Each line corresponds with 10% of control deflection. Thus at my 10% deflection I get 1% of control input etc.
This was the de facto settings recommended by Oleg from testing with actual pilots.
Perhaps, for a change, this is old dogs teaching new tricks.
Having seen Mikke’s conf.ini, it’s exactly like mine.
