My name is Michael Blohm, I’m from Denmark, Copenhagen with my soon to become Wife, and our moved on adult kids(yes - newfound spare time). My work life is as IT manager with responsibility for a complex Oracle infrastructure. I’ve been into sailing, competing for years at a high level, and now with passion, enjoying flying gliders for real in my spare time.
I’m in the casual end when flying online, but when, try to make it as real as possible. My flight sim experience comes from FS old days, falcon 4, then moved to p3d, and today with X plane 11 on VATSIM and IVAO. I have both IL2 and DCS with all maps and WW2 modules, plus mostly westerly jets. Regarding DCS compared to IL2, I’m biased towards DCS with its stronger focus on flight modeling, and the flying clean requirement, including the modules more technical aspect. I’m no top gun, and it is not important to become one, I’m here for passion, fun, long term friendship to be, around a common flying passion
I have mailed fort and back with Tom, and that has convinced me, that EAF easily is the place to be for me, for many god reasons. Most importantly and foremost is, that this is a friendship group with a common passion for flying and flight simulation-, good values and respect between friends, and equally important, a healthy understanding for our individual work life balances.
Hi Michael,
Great to have you on board, I’m sure you’ll be very happy with us. I’ll send a WhatsApp to Starfire to let him know that you’ve posted on the forum so that he can start to get the ball rolling ASAP
Welcome to EAF.
I am the guy in charge of on-boarding. Me and my fellow Training Officers (TO’s) are part of the Operational Training Unit (OTU) and we will try and make it as pleasant and fast as possible.
We use IL-2 battle of Stalingrad series (BoX) for our on-boarding. But more about that later.
I around an hour I will send you material and instructions on how to proceed.
Welcome to EAF Michael! As you might see you are now EAF_T_Mike (not to be confused with Mikke!), sorry for the slow add to the trainee group, but I have had a busy vacation (finally back at work so I can get some rest!).
Great to find a fellow sailor in the group, I am sometimes miss flying nights because of 470 sailing regattas. I recently competed in the 470 Masters at Hourtin in France while the top teams were in Aarhus for the World Championships.
I find sailing experience helps me to be light on the controls and to anticipate & control swing. It is however not much help in deflection shooting ! and I probably need a more powerful graphics card - it is well known that a bad workman blames his tools !, so I also need to practice more.
I’m mad about Spits and I find that DCS offers the most realistic flying experience, even though the graphics and playability are probably better in IL2. However like EAF602_Puff we don’t like the fact that we can’t use certain controls in IL2, because the cockpit is a bit oversimplified.
So look forward to meeting you online for a fly around while we wait for a new campaign to start.
Thanks for all the warm welcomes in this forum and in whatsapp, and already on-line to. Looking forward to more time whit you all.
And Sailing you said Topsy, well yes, actually I’m sailing on the old America Cup 12 meter VIM, built by Vanderbilt in the late 30, and before that I was sailing Contender, really awesome fly by wire close to the water, fantastic sailing.
regarding graphic card, what do you have? (PM me)
