Gun Camera Movies

Someone posted on these forums last year a ‘how to’ on making movies using Fraps IIRC can anyone point me in the right direction for that thread, please?

or

I would like to make a some simple B&W gun camera clips using some tracks I have can anyone give me a quick run through on how to do it?

Thanks

For making movies, the best starter tutorial is by Dart:

(there are quite a few techniques in there I don’t agree with, but it is still an excellent tutorial to get you going)

A much more detailed Filmmakers 101 is by GL2 at:

For Guncam’s, there has never been a simple tutorial posted that I can find. I’ve only tinkered with guncams by capturing with FRAPS in wonder woman view, then dropping the video into VirtualDub and using the MSU Old Cinema filter. There are some threads at UBI about this:

The guys at UBI Movie makers are always very helpful. I am no expert at all in guncams. The best clips I have seen came from Wiley (aka Doolittle81).

Failing that, I know a puppet you could ask for advice on general movie making

Hi Classic,
I posted a littletutorial last year when we were at Normandy

I don’t know if its good to understand and the best way to do it, but maybe it helps to creat guncam-footage.
Its not that sophisticated as the tuts and links Joe posted but maybe its helpful, because its short

Classic, you’ll need to download this filter to add to VirtualDub as it doesn’t come as standard:

The best thing in that filter is the screen judder. If you’re clever, you should only add the judder when guns are firing.

The distortions are a matters of taste - lines, blotches, etc, we are used to seeing in old films, but if these were viewed right aftger the flight they would be in pristine condition.

And another small tip, the film would have been 35mm, so not the usual aspect ratio. If you have a copy of Brothers In Arms, look at 2:35, where I had to use a fake screen. You’ll also note the judders and an out of focus effect.

Oh, don’t forget to add a film spool sound fx!

Thanks guys, thats the thread I was on about Paf.

Dunno bout the sound effects Joe, I only want a quick clip of the ‘moment of destruction’ thats as far as my movie talents will stretch I reckon
