Guess where…can’t wait for this map!!! Like a modern Malta for me. I was on a school cruise at the time visiting Egypt, Venice, when our cruise was cut short by a week and our ship, SS Uganda, sailed off to act as a hospital ship during the conflict. It was pretty spartan on board, bunk beds etc but some pretty girls!
Thanks for that Jimmi, it brought back some of the similar memories and thoughts at the time. Yes, same ship, but I was on it the following year at the time of the conflict, so the cruise got cut half way through it and we were offloaded at Athens (but Wiki says Naples?). Still remember the scrambled eggs…proper prison style and made with powered milk. Eric Clapton’s Layla paying on the duke box all the time (loved that song!!) and paying table tennis (badly) in all weathers. Basic was the word though.
Remember Egypt, especially around the Pyramids has changed so much when I went there again recently. Cairo has almost been built up to them now and now lost some of that magic in the sea of desert. Remember mud hut and the poor kids drinking the disgusting brown river water much like the author.
