Hi Guys
Most of you have heard about this before and most of you think: “What will it be to me”!
The problem is far away in the future, just as running out of fossilefuel(oil and gas), right!? [lots of Irony]
Not really. Depending of which math model that are used we have between 61 days and 340 days before broadband providers and ISP’s run out of IPv4 adresses.
IPv6 are not backward compatible but there are technologies that can ‘sort of’ translate. They all have on problem in common: They suck :bootyshk:
Becourse they increase Latency (ping)!!!
And latency are the one thing we don’t want in realtime games, like IL-2.
What can you do?!
- Whenever you by new switches, routers and firewall make sure they are IPv6 ready.
If you buy serverspace (TS service), make sure the ISP/Hosting provider are will provide IPv6 connectivity.
ARIN (https://www.arin.net/) estimates that IPv4 and IPv6 will exist together for 5-10 years.
DEFCON 18: IPv6: No Longer Optional
A good presentation filled with humor from the Arin CEO John Curran.
