NEVER GIVE UP!!!

Hi All.

Just an update on a prior post regarding game freezing which I spent several hours on trying to solve. Until yesterday I’ve spent about a month reading the forum, trying suggestions from several members to no avail. Until yesterday I had given up hope of playing Clod again. Yesterday I made one last attempt and want to share what I did in case someone can benefit from my experience.

Re-installed windows 7, 64bit home premium, drivers, updates, other basic required programs. Next came Clod with TF updated. Crashed again. Went on to install DCS, P3D and X-Plane. I was done with Clod!!!

Problem is I love Clod and the spitfire so I told myself ONE MORE TIME…so I deleted and removed Clod and steam. Here’s what I did and Clod has never worked better.

Install steam–make no changed to settings.

Install Clod using steam–make no changed to settings except uncheck the box in properties “Enable Steam Cloud Synch.” Once Clod is installed start the program and do a test flight that is recommended. Next restart windows. Next restart Clod again and do another test flight for a couple of minutes. Shut down Clod without changing any options in the program.

Install TF updates–Repeat the above. Install–Test flight–Restart windows–Repeat the test flight for a couple of minutes. Make no changes to settings, options etc., and continue to repeat for all five updates.

Now make any changes to settings, game options etc.

I just about fell over when I started playing Clod and it ran perfect without a glitch. I’m not saying this is the perfect solution for freezing issues but it worked for me.
I was taught to restart windows after any program install to set the registry?

Through this ordeal I learned a lot from suggestions everyone made in response to my plea for help and found other valuable information on settings in the forum so my time was not wasted.

One thing I’ve noticed people usually overlook is installing DirectX version that comes with games.

Now on more recent titles, youre more likely to have compatible directX libraries then not and never notice any issues, but with older games it is very important practice to go into game install dir, find one usually called Redist/Red or similar and find directX inside it and run setup as administrator.

Sometimes older games need those older binaries that don’t come with newer versions of DX9 and it can solve many problems.

Don’t worry about breaking anything else, as dx9 versions coexist in peace and harmony since as long as I can remember.

Any even if you have some other issues and not this one, this is still a good thing to do for older titles so just do it…

I was going to wait for the next TF patch to be released and then see if the game improves for me.

Reinstall Windows. I don’t have a clue where to start with that.

Just read that the in game ai talking cause stutters, I have it turned off but worth a try.

Sow have just posted tips to help stop stutters for win 8 users and Nvidia, using the latest GeForce hotfix. But interestingly beforehand, people were reducing multiple cores down to 1 to fix this. Wondered if you lads had tried this?
