Fighter Pilot- BBC tv 1981.

S Chaps

I watched all 8 episodes of this old documentary today.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCrY4Frdgn8

It starts from the ambitions of many men from all walks of life to be a fighter pilot and ends at the lucky one who actually makes it to be an RAF fast jet pilot.

Many smiles, many disappointments and lots of corny music, mullets, moustaches and odd wallpaper.

Hope you enjoy watching it, I know I did

Charlie.

Crikey, nice find Charlie.

I remember well watching that back in 81, the same year I tried to get into the RAF (as an Engineering Technician, not a pilot)…but they wouldnae have me

Yeah,

Great find Charlie. I can’t believe I haven’t seen this on Youtube.

Thanks.

Episode 4"Going solo"
At about 13:30 into the episode you will hear the instructor contradict everything he has previously said. Make the student feel at ease, don’t put too much pressure, bla, bla.

Terrible example of instructing in my opinion. Not to be done in the early stages of training.
No wonder the guy is tense. No shit Sherlock!
Sorry, just had to vent, lol.

Episode 7… 0.45 - 0.48mins

Priceless information.

Can we get this into OTU Apollo

Now tell the truth Apollo… Im sure you got annoyed when the Instructor mentioned “Commercial pilots in charcoal grey suits and shirt sleeves”

Ahhhh Baz. You want a simulator, with nice buttons so we can simulate electrical and hydraulic failures.

@Charlie. The military fast jet guys will never ever accept a civilian guy as their equal. But that’s OK. I think they have nice and probably more comfortable uniforms than us airline types. I also noticed that if you can not properly fly a circuit, then you are Chopped. Perhaps that’s what Asiana should enforce, lol.
