If you’ve bought the boxed version you can play without the DVD in by launching the game using the fallout3.exe file, and not the launcher exe.

Hmm it is definitely (quoting) ‘Oblivion with guns’ so far. Far Cry 2 (amazing real-world simulation but no story to speak of) had me expecting a minor masterpiece from Fallout3

Big game though and interesting character development, early days. I am currently dragging a mangled leg around after the Supermarket fracas in which I expected to die but didn’t somehow. In Oblivion, in the ‘Catch the night-robbers’ side-quest early on for example I was massacred for a long time but the VATS in FO3 worked ok so scaling seems better

Someone’s going to be furious about this latest version of Fallout. I confidently predict

Ming

my friend got it be carefull at bug after autosave

Considering an “Xbox360 and Fallout” package for the brats’ christmas cough.

Watching this review carefully, ta

I’ve heard the COD multiplayer is pretty cool too - 4 of us splitscreen on the Xbox as a team (for a change) against the enemy on Xbox live.

There is no level scaling in Fallout 3. Thats one lesson they learned from Oblivion.

Playin it at the moment, brings back memories of a Mad Max era…mmmmmm!

Really enjoying it now, very atmospheric and quite hard work staying alive. I’m following some tips (not cheating) but found the scientific wotsit doll on my own after a scary “I am so going to die any second…” session. Just scraped through phew. Safe to say that RPG fans are going to like it. It is bloody massive

Ming

Oblivion was Fallout3 with generic dungeons and dopey Hades-clones

Mid-term report at level 9 being that it’s very interesting after the usual scrabbling around to begin with. I’ve only played four or five RPGs, this is the most immersive and saves and quick saves are instantaneous

Did I mention massive, it’s gigantic with huge and beautiful (and broken) cities and a very post-apocalyptic Mad Max style. There’s always something that drives you mad in games (Oblivion gates) but I haven’t found it in this one. Apart from Moira. She’s not going to make it

Very good game. Im on a bit of a pause with it for the moment, but really enjoying it. doesnt need too many Mods either (unlike Oblivion).

And as MadDog EAF331 says, they learnt from their greatest error in Oblivion: Level-scaling.

All the reviews I have read say to avoid the main quest, once completed the game stops.

Do you’re exploring and side quests first

Correct advice. Though I always did mostly sidequests first anyway. But yes, the game stops completely if you complete the main quest, meaning you don`t get to see any of the other good stuff.

Also, if none of you have yet, I recommend playing the 3Dogs radio station. It`s got some great 50s type music on. I actually find myself humming to some of them… “The girls are the prettiest, the bees are the stingyiest!” lol. You can even change the songs (in the game file if you want).

Don`t play it while sneaking though… the enemy hear the radio!

Don`t play it while sneaking though… the enemy hear the radio!

DOH!

(thanks for the tip I knew something was giving away my position!)

You’re walking warily through a shattered post-nuclear urban landscape and this guy’s singing on your radio “I don’t want to set the world on fire” - ironic touches like that throughout the game, nice. [Spoiler] He just wants to start a flame in her heart

Just a little more to do for Moira then I’m going back to have a word with that old guy who grenaded me then apologised “I was just saying hello!”

Ming

Hahaha, I can picture that.

Andd who is this Moira, hmm?

Hurry up Santa

I was listening to Radio 3 waiting for the last few bars of the 1812 before opening fire. It was a plan

Ming

Spoiler space just in case… no main quest spoilers

Gets better all the time, I’m well over 100 hours playing. Level 20 and that’s yer lot so new challenges. Killing those Giant Radscorpions out in the open is hard work before finding the Terrible Shotgun (Sentry Bots! RUN!) and when you kill any mutant or animal, crack any safe etc there’s no “Ker-Ching!” and XP added. I miss that XP clocking up but you get used to it. So the challenge becomes “Is it worth wasting ammo fighting off creatures that have no useful loot?” Huge monster-slugfests, changing many magazines and on the point of death - and then finding three pound fifty and a copy of ‘Humans Today’ in their back pocket. Pouch

Level 20 is just tough enough to make it interesting, no walkovers, lots of sleepovers

Each location in the sub-quests is interesting though and if you decide to fight the creatures in the Wasteland you do need to find ammo and stimpacks

Currently in the east, Fort Bannister: slowly heading for the Nuka-Cola plant sidequest- with meeting Dad in the main quest on the back burner

Hannibal’s quest has been very interesting. I still haven’t found the elephant. Real life had to wait while I sorted that one out. To my satisfaction I mean

Avoiding the endgame, with Fawkes in the wasteland slaughtering the Enclave and siccing him on to the Radscorpions and Sentry Bots. Payback time

Anyone found out how to get the Operation Anchorage DLC (for PC) yet?

I get sent around the XBox 360 houses grr

Ming

Am also level 20 now and what i really like is that im not uber. Im good at the specific skills I chose, but I still cant hack into a computer very well or sweet talk anyone successfully. My skill with laser weapons are far worse than with a rifle or shot gun. THATS how it should be. In default Oblivion, you could be master at everything which is just unimmersive to me, I like my skills I choose to mean something.

And I can still get kicked by the odd giant scorpion if I`m not careful.

I never knew there was a DLC out, but Im afraid I dont pay for stuff like that online. Ill just wait until its released as a pack in store one day, like with… Oblivion!

Been doing some of the MQ now as I`ve been all over the land and most jobs have been done. there are some very interesting stories in the MQ…
