I had a quick look, but no one seemed to have mentioned this yet. Very good film about the last days in Hitler’s bunker (and a few other places around Berlin) - quite like Der Untergang.
Very good casting, acting and script. The opposite of a modern Hollywood film as it presents Hitler as a perfectly ‘normal’ man rather than something supernaturally evil. His swings between despair, mania and vague calm are utterly convincing.
I recommend reading Beavor’s ‘Berlin’ before you see it to get some background and better recognise the characters.
Fully seconded. “Der Untergang” (Downfall) is a powerful movie, it gives a good view into the chaos and despair of the last days of the Third Reich. The casting is very well done, as is the acting. Definately one of the best movies to come out of Germany since Das Boot.

I started beevor Berlin but stopped it. (I think it’s a great book, but i was not in the mood for it!)
Another must IMHO are the memories of the third reich by Albert Speer.
When I went to see it in the biggest cinema here in Oslo about all the audience was my age (34) and younger. And once the movie finished there was almost none of the usual noise and chatting which goes on.

Jimmi, I recommend finishing the Berlin book at some stage. I agree with you about the Speer memoirs, very worth reading. I remember thinking after finishing it - How did Germany manage to last that long with so many idiots in charge

Marsh i will absolutely finish it! I already read Stalingrad from Beevor and it was impressive. (if you don’t have read it already i strongly suggest it!)
Another good one for 1945 is Max Hastings, Armageddon: The Battle For Germany 1944-45.
