It depends on how it is used.
Remember that less than 1/3 of planes of BoB where spits, and no spits came overseas before 1941.
I fully undestand some of the guys from Axies squads complaining about us flying the Vb with cannons when they are flying Emils.
If they can make the flightmodel as it should be I can live with the shadow
I think the Mods development are exciting but I am lurkwarm about most of the mods. Bad visual hacks are spoiling my illusion of flying the old crats. An illusion I hold very dear.
I am a very big fan fan of the sound mod, but bomber mod is noGo in my opinion. I tried the B-29 and B-24 and B-17 with full fuel and bombload, but it just not feel right. It simply climbs and accelerates to fast
By far the most mods will never make it into my Il2.
But the new high-res gunsights and sounds are great, also the new textured Hurricane-Cockpit. Some of the maps that are in the works look promising but not all. I don’t like the other flyables that much too and don’t use them, because of the AI-limited FM. But I think the SpitI is not bad and they keep on working to get it better.
With the cracked code a big door has been opened for everything, for nice things and absolute bull. (like the internet in itself)
There are other considerations too. Online everyone needs to have the same planes flyable. For example the if the host has the C47 flyable and one of the clients doesn’t. The aircraft list will look like this.
Host Machine:
Player 1 Spit
Player 2 Spit
Player 3 Spit
Player 4 Spit Player 5 C47
Player 6 109
Player 7 109
Player 8 109
Client Machine:
Player 1 Spit
Player 2 Spit
Player 3 Spit
Player 4 Spit Player 5 109
Player 6 109
Player 7 109
I’m not sure using the Mod online is a good idea unless you are in a “controlled by host” environment. If I was to host a modded online campaign I would also ask that the players have an install exactly the same as mine…in short a seperate install with the same packs as me, packs decided on before the campaign starts in the same way we choose skins.
I have asked if the middle guns can be moved in a bit so they fit the correct panels.
I put in the correct gun panels top and bottom, also the correct placement for the ejector ports, now if the flames can be moved I will be a happy bunny
The chaps over at AAA have how fixed the gun alignment and will be releasing it as soon as I have sent a generic skin to them, I have added a Day/Night scheme to the Sky undersided one so we will see what they release
Don’t forget me please Kris I hope we can use this one in a campaign some day, would be perfect for Norwary SE right now. However I can’t see it happening for a while, a nice Bob type coop with just us in would work
We could see what campaigns are available in the DCG?
edit:
just looked at the DCG there is a BOB 1940 campaign that is built on the Gulf of Finland map, do we fancy that? I could crank that up for a couple of missions?
I’m going to put together a must have mod pack list and then run the campaign.
I can host 10x10s with no trouble at all, so maybe we can play 12vs8 (in favour of allies) or of course no blue opposition just veteran AI and massed bombers
Thanks Classic I haven’t installed it yet but hope to later, want to try out the new FM for it. Standing by my bed ready for the Norway SE for tomorrow night, hoping to get some pay back.
Ming I was thinking the Tugs coop until Classic’s idea.
The main difference was the starting mechanism (cartridges in the MkII, electric starter on Mk I)
Externally, these showed as a socket (electric, crank??) near the starboard wing root (Mk I), or bump near the spinner, again on the on the starboard side (Mk II).
Kris, once again amazing skins for probably the most sought after aircraft in IL2! Almost makes me want to get the mods back into my online install of IL2…
…hold on, brownings against He111’s, no, not again! Maybe if you make the rear gunners rookies
