Well it was faily easy for me, Peter, because I’d stuffed the game up royally so I decided to get rid of everything and begin again. Now the online game’s on the C drive and offline on the D drive and never the twain shall meet.
Terry Thomas is a legend, and can carry off anything. Don’t think I’ve seen that film in a while but I know the one you mean
New install means checking in at HL early Ed to make sure HL can find your fresh install, that Search for Executable thing. Or the screams of anguish and/or frustration will be deafening I don’t want damaged cans
We’ve been having a great time lately but we’re getting rolled up down in the south east eek
On a vaguely-connected note, why can I now not create / alter folders from read-only? I’ve gone up to the highest level but after spending a minute ‘updating’ it switches back to read-only again. Weird
Are there any screenshots/videos of these All Aircraft Arcade goodies? (Cockpits, new effects etc?)
THere don’t seem to be many on the forums there so its a bit difficult to gauge the extent of what one is missing - eg stunning B-29 cockpit, interior and gunner positions or a shabby EAW-era cockpit stuffed into a AI only plane?
I don’t think there are many new cockpits, Flash, on account of the work load involved. They’ve done a good effort with the Blenheim - Pe-2 cockpit but with the Blenheim wings and engine from the inside view
Can anyone see a file to turn the splash screen and maps back from Cyrllic to English? There’s one for ranks but I can’t see one for the other text (or maybe I’m blind)
Easy to sort mate… Give me a shout if you are still having probs! By the way, despite all the whining about this in the community, certain outspoken critics are creeping into the site with tails between their legs! AAA now has well over 2,000 members, and is growing everyday!
Still not convinced of the usefullness of another PE-2 cockpit when you want an original. I even loved the crappy Blenheim cockpit from FS-SDOE more over a surrogate in IL-2. I hope they can present an original complete cockpit.
By the way did they program the steering wrong or is it that unresponsive on bigger planes.
Trooper, any chance you can give me a hand sorting out the cyrillic map names? I’ve d’l the files from Bee, put them in the I18n folder and updated my file list but it hasn’t worked :o
For now I’d just like the maps - DGEN carriers and so forth I can sort out later.
Is this with all maps?.. you may have to take one of the blank map files you have downloaded, copy and re-name it to the desired map that is still in cyrillic, then copy it back again… Thats what I did and it worked ok… Oh, make sure you have copied the new files you downloaded into the i18n folder in the ‘files’ folder, not the other one… it can be a bit confusing, but it worked ok for me…
Installation:
Put the blank .properties files in your “i18n” folder, and copy/paste the additional entries into
your Filelist.txt. Save and exit.
Now when you start the game and load one of those maps, it will try to load the map names listed
in the relevant '_ru properties file. Finding nothing, it will automatically revert to the
hard-coded English map labels instead.
Now that you have the idea, you can do the same trick for any other map that has the same problem. Handy eh?
Installed the 6DOF mousemod. That is working fine. Programmed the mouse to the X-52 mousestick.
I can not imagine that maddox wants people to stay on hacking IL-2 this way because it is not a fully developed product. Competes badly with SOW:BOB with only a few flyables.
But I am amusing myself now with the IL-4 and the Blenheim IV. It is nice to have a MS 406/410 with a Hispano 20 mm punch.
I don’t think we should underestimate Maddox. The SOW has a new physics engine and it is my guess that BOB will just be the first part since Maddox needs money to develop it further.
But if the physics and graphics is the only improvement, I am afraid that it will fall short. The reason for it was so long getting hold of me was the lack of a good campagn engine like EECH or Falcon4. SEOW goes a long way in making up for it, but installing it is a pain (I tried and failed) and the web-interface is far from userfriendly.
I really miss the ability to run a campagn on a seperate server such as on Falcon4AF.
After reading the book “Brute Force” I find that IL2 really miss a realworld reliability option. As an example; The Jap lacked certain materials in '44 & '45. So their engines where maide without crome. Quality where down and as an example 80 planes where flown from factory to a base but only 15 made it. The rest was lost to engine failures
Jagshemash! very excite now, very excite…I just saw the pics of the new Hawker Typhoon that’s being built for those who enjoy the unofficial mods. It might not be perfect but I know it’s better and more realistic than not having a Typhoon on the Western front.
One of the modders has just released a Normandy map with a greatly expanded fictional Island to represent the South coast of England. Far from Geographically correct of course but at least it provides a coast to operate from rather than a tiny piece of land. If you can ignore the short flying distance across the Channel it makes a big difference to rhubarb missions. Also comes in three flavours-Winter, Spring and Autumn.
