We have determined that the DCS World 2.5 update will not be available in 2016 as we had earlier hoped. This is mainly due to additional work needing to be done of the Caucasus map update, and we don’t feel it can be accomplished within the next two months at a high level of quality. Before we can complete this map update, we first need to finalize and release both the Nevada map update and the Normandy map. Those, along with the Spitfire, are now our highest priorities. Once the Nevada update and the Normandy map tasks are complete, our map team can return to the Caucuses map and move the 2.5 closer to an Open Beta release.
Also, please note that official information is only passed along through our Newsletter and press releases.
Hornet Update
As with the DCS World 2.5 update, it was also decided last week that the Hornet Early Access will be pushed beyond our original desire to release by the end of this year. As mentioned a couple of weeks ago, we are now very busy coding the various cockpit systems and flight dynamics. However, as this work continues and we acquire new information, the level of complexity has become more apparent and it will take more time than first estimated.
Why I added question marks. I really hope its NTTR + Normandy merged in 2.0 - but given ED’s track record I wouldn’t rule out - DCS World, DCS Nevada 2.0 and DCS Normandy 3.0(beta).
I’m hoping with a new map and all those ground objects, we’ll get some sort of online campaign eventually. I just have no idea when, is there any now with the existing maps?
Otherwise maybe some hand crafted coops of old.
Very OT sorry, but BOS is getting dx11 support and lots of improvements all the time and might be another sim to tide us over. I fancy flying the yak1b in the rift. With TF looking quite a way off, maybe even this time next year imho, it’s either SOW, which many are getting bored of or something or a couple of somethings to bring us together flying.
Personally I am not about buying more sims unless I can see a future. There are a lot of work in progress, or promises, in all three sims.
BOS/BOW still lack VR support, and they have not yet implementet DX11. They have a lot of flyable aircrafts, but I dont like how the game feels and I have yet to see servers with interactive wars.
DCS have VR support, but lacks a lot of flyable aircrafts for all kind of pilots. SOS as CLOD, because it only have ac for the fighter-jocks. The map is still missing (If you cannot buy it, it is a mirage and does not have any usage) as well as historic vehicles. The real good thing is that DCS have the “Combined Arms” module, which promises a lot for a dynamic campaign.
CLOD have VR in beta, but there the BoB senario is essentially a very limit type of game. It favours the fighter-jocks, and on allied side it does not have any real use for CAS/Strike (Interdiction)/ Strategic bombing. Although I fly the Blenheim a lot, it is for a lack of better. The good thing is that Team Fusion is working on it, the bad is that their work depends on their spare time. I belive that the desert map and the new flyable aircrafts will change that a lot.
BTW: I am not bored by CLOD. I am grounded. But with a little luck my new pedals will arrive within the next 14 days
